So I've ordered one of these things. I think I'll dislike it almost as much as my 920 - which, on the day I was due to go on holiday, both the On and Volume down buttons stopped working. That's OK, I can get by with the Camera button, and set the phone to the smallest, 30s, timeout (and just wait 30 seconds for it to 'blank' before pocketting).

I like the Windows GUI, but overall, the 920's a bit average - the camera and its funtionality being a redeeming feature.

WP8 releases have been slow, and missing so much of what people want. eg. still waiting for a manual control to turn off screen rotation - that should have been "1.1".

But... we'lll give WP8.x and the 1520 one more go. This will be my last shot at a Windows Phone. I'll get this phone, and then get the 920 repaired, either under warranty, possibly the CGA or at my cost. I'll do it, then sell it, and be left with the 1520. Cameral has promise, I hope this phone is a good balance.

I don't have it yet (it's on the way), but already I'm thinking this is a "manbag" phone - and I don't have one of those. Yep, I'm probably gonna find it too big for my jeans.

So... could be a cheap 1520 on TM soon, brand new almost, and most definately a 920, used, $1 reserve.

Have Nokia almost got it right with the 1520? Microsoft certainly need to speed up the updates - no excuses, no passing the buck to carriers - and need to put into practice what they preach (we're told they're listening - give us some evidence MS!).

Reviews for the 1520 have been overall positive. Once you get use to the big screen, you will not look back at small size displays. Where did you purchase it from and how much?

Hope yer right billgates. I got it from mobilestation.co.nz - about $850 give or take a few.

I forgot to mention in my last post that...
* the cameral button also stopped working, a few days ago - hence it forced my hand on a new phone, *now*. (I can't do without a smartphone while I wait for a repair).
* I'm aware that a reset might fix the buttons, but I doubt it - Vol. down and On/Off for... well I waited about a minute, don't do anything - so I think the buttons are physically not working anymore. I'll try a reset when I get the new phone - otherwise it's off to the supplier.
* I originally was looking to purchase a 625 - awesome price for the phone methinks. Shame about no 4G/LTE. However, it was not available at the suppliers I looked at, even though I purchased one back in just November last year for a mate. Seemed like a great phone to me, didn't notice the relatively low res screen at all.

Anyway, because the Camera button failed a couple or so days ago, and the 625 was not available - I've got the 1520 on the way.

When I try to use the iPhone review unit compared to the Note, it certainly is small!

mate just about have 1 of everything :)

Screen rotation lock is now an option in Windows Phone 8 Update 3, this will be on your 1520 when you get it, and till be an OTA software update for your 920

625 does have LTE BTW

Not sure why the overseas suppliers don't have them. Both Vodafone and Telecom sell them here.

Yup, but I'm prepared to give it a go - my fourth WP phone. It'll be my last if I don't like it (maybe! :) ) As said Nathan, I like the WP8 GUI. And I hope that billgates is right about the size, and that I *won't* find it too big.

I've heard about the screen rotation lock in the update - cheers though. The question is, why wasn't it done in "1.1"?

Couple other things about the 1520. I hope the big battery really is not just big, but long lasting as well. (The 920's been embarrassing compared to iPhone users - "naa... I don't need to turn off WiFi or Bluetooth, I don't need to do anything. Are you and ya 920 fer real?")
I also looked at the Samsung phone (forgotton the model now), which has a replaceable battery. I assume, and possibly it's the correct decision, that Nokia think a phone really only has a life of a year or two. Certainly, no-one would deny the fast phone technology advances in just the last, say, three years - in terms of both hardware and OS improvements. Hell... go back ten years... what's a smartphone?

I'm pleased to see the 1520 has the mSD card support, I think that should be in all of their phones in the future.

shipping is a feature too

I'm charging my 1520 every 2 days

Nokia Lumia 1520, best phone I've ever had. Big. Clear. Fast. And iPhone users look at it in awe, and realise how dull their home screen is.

Good to see a new phone coming out with ext SD card I'll be watching for your thoughts once you have had a chance to have a play.

bit the same as my 32gb hence liking have the option, also like being able to use 2 batteries and don't really understand why more models don't have that option.

I'm not sick of android but would like to try something new and WP is probably more to my liking than Apple OS so I'll be interested in how this model reviews.

Sorry for the baited hook, but, what... like the 1520 or 625 at http://www.windowsphone.com/en-nz/phones ? - both easily available via parallel import w' TNZ ROM's. Infact, there's only 8 phones I can see on that page.

Begs the question Nathan, where'd you get yours? :)
