We're still working on NZ, it's still coming, sorry we can't tell you exactly when yet.

Hey, Nathan already got NZ added to the newly expanded list of countries getting the surface book officially. He is only one man, he probably needs another week or so to get Cortana here too. laughing

I appreciate that such things are confidential for good reason, however it has been 2 years (?) and you've probably said the most about it out of all the Microsoft publicity channels here. To the average user it looks like Microsoft doesn't give a toss about the NZ market due to the amount of features written on the side of the box that then have "* not available in NZ sucks to be you" written beside them.

Can you suggest to the responsible team that they do a Microsoft blog post about developing Cortana for this market? Show off some of your progress and success, while demonstrating that it isn't vaporware to the average user?

A year ago in a Microsoft Q/A session it was said "At this stage there are no plans to bring Cortana to New Zealand". Hopefully things have changed based on what nathan said above.

I have my phone set to Region UK and Language New Zealand, Cortana works fine.

Without Cortana on your Windows 10 phone it is pretty hopeless.

The thing is, most Kiwis understand that we at the bottom of the world and don't expect things like "what time is the next bus due" to get a response anyway. IMHO Microsoft should enable Cortana for NZ anyway and use the UK version. Cortana almost always understands my accent and I certainly understand her British one.

Best thing about Cortana...being able to send emails and txts while driving having never once touched the phone.

I just have a microsoft account set to the US and it comes up on the computers and does what it should. I gave up on that cheap windows mobile I bought to try to play with the new windows 10 stuff, just a complete POS phone that is too slow to do anything. Might get another to try with sometime.

I cant think of any justifiable reason to set an account to be NZ rather than the US?

Hello, I'm sorry I'm not sure when Cortana will be introduced to Windows Phone in New Zealand and Australia, however, you can change some settings which can enable cortana on both Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile preview in NZ. Here are the steps:

1- settings - Keyboard - then add English (United States) then remove any other English keyboard that you may have because you don't want to have more than one english keyboard.

Then Restart

2- settings - Language - add languages - English (United States) - then make the main language by moving it up and remove any other English languages u have!

Then Restart

3- settings - Region - set Country/Region to United States - Regional format match phone language.

Then Restart

At this point Cortana should be in your app list, however u need to set speech language to be English United States

4- speech - Speech Language - English (United States).

Then Restart.

At some points u may need windows update to download languages and things but after being patient then u'll get it!

For date and time settings, then just set it manually by putting either on set time zone automatically or set ur self to Auckland, Wellington. hope that helped if not plz contact me. It worked for me as in the picture below

Haha, awesome that a lead selling point for Windows 10/Windows Mobile is simply not available here two years after it was announced. I enjoy Microsoft products but that is just unacceptable.

Definitely a joke by now, I get ribbed by colleagues for it everytime I point out something about Windows Phone to other colleagues thinking of getting one

I would go out and buy a Windows phone today if Cortana was available.

EDIT: Is there a downside to setting either your PC or Phone to a different region?

Main downside would be the keyboard corrupts your spelling by swapping NZ English for US English, and losing any apps not marketed to other regions (e.g. ASB app may be Aussie NZ only etc). Prices would also be available in $US not $NZ, and purchases between regions may not carry over*.

* Microsoft says you also need a payment address and method from the country you specify in order to buy apps and content, however in the past it's worked with Paypal and my NZ VISA

I just done a windows 10 install on a Samsung all in one computer and Cortana was an option to install. I tried it and it seems to work. didn't have any trouble understanding my voice. I had to make sure I said open then the program on the computer I wanted otherwise it opened up a web browser and searched for what ever I said.
