Ok this is more than I wanted to spend but I noticed the 2.2GHZ quad core processor of the 930. Is it still a good phone or is the 1020 a better buy for the money?

930 would  be my pick.  (I'm actually debating it as I dropped my 920 and completely smashed the screen)

Wow and it has a 1080p screen and 20MP camera.

That with a Quad core, 2200 MHz, Krait 400 and adreno 330 GPU which is much better than the 305.

Seems like a no brainer for the price.

Nothing else can compete with the hardware for the money? Done deal otherwise.

Damned technology, always spending more than I intended haha

Yeah the 930 is extremely good value.  Still a wee bit more than I can spend at the moment. I've sorta been hoping a good second hand one might come up lol

Agreed, the 930 is a great phone too.  However, the 830 is 6 months newer and it has the following advantages over the 930:

  • 4G 700MHz (if you get one that was originally sold by Spark)
  • Micro SD card slot
  • Longer talk time and much longer standby time
The full comparison from GSM Arena is here:  http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=6638&idPhone2=6227

N.B.  GSM Arena's specs don't cover the 4G Band 28 model intended for the Australasian market, as sold by Spark.  Having used 4G 700MHz, it is excellent for streaming video and fast download of files.  It seems a pity to buy a phone in mid-2015 that doesn't support it.

Having a Micro SD card slot is also a biggie if you have a sizeable music collection and still want to leave plenty of free storage for apps etc.  I have a 64GB card in mine and don't expect to run out of storage for the expected life of the phone.  32GB total storage with no expansion capability as you are stuck with for the 930 is too limiting IMO.

Ok cool, those are the 2 then to weigh up.

Is my 620 worth anything on the used market, its got very little scratching and the battery lasts as long as the day it was bought. Would I even get $40 for it?

I got $100 on Trade Me for my 720 including a 32GB Micro SD card.  It was also in mint condition.

Have a look at the prices fetched by Expired auctions to give you some idea.  I think you should get at least $50 for your 620, but be prepared to re-list it a few times.  Buyers for Windows phones are hard to come by compared to Android and Apple, but if you are patient, someone will come along who appreciates the unique features of a Windows phone.

pffft android and silly sirri, i cant describe how much more i enjoy using my simple 620 over my galaxy s4 and iphone 5 (work). they are pigs for windows continuity as expected but also i find them to be really bad UX, i appreciate the simplicity and locked down nature of windows phone UX.

thats great, if I got $50 Id be happy with that.

one thought, the 930 wont be usable on windows 10. how far are we away from windows phone 10 release?

im still staggering at the amount of technology for $450 in the 930. really puts Silly to shame.

I'm pretty sure it will be...?  You can already install the win 10 phone preview on it I think?  (I wouldn't recommend it though as from what I've heard it's nowhere near as mature as the desktop preview)

The 620 has NFC, the 635 doesn't. The 735/830/640 have better NFC than the 930 in that they can read external ISO-14443 contactless cards.

i havnt found a use for NFC yet though, i thought it was a bit of a gimmick. perhaps i should look into using it more. aside from that though the 930 hardware seems superior.

im not going to over complicate the purchase. i did that with android and then win phone, then got the apple which i only use when i have to. so many features on each phone i really dont use.

i just want a fast running system that doesnt get clunky and takes semi decent pictures. i think the 930 is it.

supposedly the 930 (along with many other devices) is still very buggy under the latest win 10 update. i hope they get it right, i dont want to buy yesteryears technology even if it is only half a click in price.

I'd be looking at the 735, my partner picked one up yesterday, after her 520 would no longer work properly. She had it for ages though.  The 735, has a great screen, good camera, wireless charging, NFC and a MicroSD slot
Currently $266 at Harvey Norman.  Plus of course like many other phones, it will be upgraded to Windows Phone 10.

I have the 830, again a very good phone with all the features above, but with only a 1MP front facing camera, though in saying that, I don't use it.

We also looked at the 640, but it seems to only be in Vodafone stores and my partner didn't want to buy from them.  A very nice device though and only $299.

well the 735 is nearly half the price of the 930, but clearly much less hardware packed inside. a good buy at that price.

whatever i get its going to run 8.1 faster than the 620.

is there any overclocking apps for windows? haha. ram i think is the main issue.

2.2 GHZ quad core, 2GB ram and an adreno 330 does sound beast mode.
