My phone can see the that new firmware is needed but I can't seem to get past the software updater taking me back to the Nokia website.
Any thoughts ?

You clicked on the SW Update icon in the PC Suite program right?
Because if you did so, then it will take you always to Nokia's website from where you have to download the Nokia Software Updater program, which is a separate program.

Worked fine before upgrade but now when the alarm goes off (when the phone if off), the phone powers on and the whole screen is just lit up with battery indicator icon slighly visible. Only way to recover is to pull the battery out.

I tried to replicate your problem, but my phone works okay with the new firmware:

1. I set up the alarm
2. Switched off the phone
3. Alarm started on time with alarm window plus backlight and battery indicator only on the screen. Just as you described above.
4. I chose alarm off.
5. Then it asked me: Do you want the phone switched on? I said yes.
6. My phone switched on.

Could you describe at which point do you have problem? You dont have the alarm window when the phone powers on?

I would assume that the NZ code is probablly the Vodafone firmware.

Can't beat the burble of that American V8. Ohh yea!

No. I have a VFNZ N95 and the product code is 0547584.
If you remove your battery, the product code is on the sticker under the IMEI number.

The NZ code mentioned on that webpage is 0536088.
If you check carefully you will see that Operator specific codes are in a different group under the Asia codes. The code for VFNZ is not mentioned on that page.

The codes in the Europe and Asia group are Operator free language specific codes I believe.

Who wants to try first the NZ code 0536088?

Thanks for taking the time to try it out. At stage 3, the Nokia logo appears for about 10 seconds, I get the backlight on, the battery indicator but that's it.

Anothing I just realised is happening is that the Nokia "welcome" sound is not occuring at startup. Frankly this is not something I miss but I recall seeing someone mention on n95users.com that they too had the same problem.

** UPDATE **

Being the techy that I am, I did some experimenting and found that with the power cable plugged in, the alarm does startup as it should, described in steps 1-6. This worked twice in a row.

Conclusions: the battery is faulty? Not holding it's charge correctly? Doing a hard reset seems like it might not really solve this issue...

Have you tried it? How's it?

Yes, its a BIG package, with heaps of features, but you just install the modules you need. Nice interface, a bit more resource hungry, but if you have a decent PC, then not really an issue.

Just installed it last night, so haven't had a chance to fully check it all out yet, but yes I'd recommended it - so far.

Other than this issue its a hell of an update, awesome stuff!!!

The multimedia menu? I'm glad about that as it was terribly slow to open (although i do like the menu now and then) You can easily open it with the key to the right of the d-pad.

Agreed! I havn't updated yet, I was going to wait, but I don't think I will be able to resist. I don't like the Multimedia Menu opening when you slide the phone into landscape mode as it IS slow.

Hmm... I think I'm going to update my phone tomorrow or maybe the next day as I'm busy tomorrow. Can't wait!

I used the NZ code and it upgrades the firmware just fine. Unfortunately I have no basis for comparison, so I can't tell if there are any differences in the firmware between using this code and the EURO code. One thing I can't find on the new firmware is internet telephony (wasn't sure if it was on the original NZ Vodafone firmware before anyway...)

Has anyone tried switching from one code to another, and updating the firmware again? For example, I would like to try out the EURO firmware, rather than the NZ one. Or would changing product code, and then rebooting be sufficient for the new features to unlock themselves?
