I am hopeful that W10 will be the resurrection of Windowsphone, it deserves to succeed, my next phone will either be the next Google Nexus or a high end W10 phone, probably will depend on which comes to fruition first

I really like the idea of Continuum but to really make it work you're going to want to buy a phone with the same sort of power as say a Surface 3 and iirc the Intel X5/X7 was destined only for tablets and phones are stuck with the poor cousin X3 chip so what we might end up with will be a token gesture?

NZCrusader: Still loving SP3 and WP.

Stable and efficient.

I think that microsoft was just too late to the game concerning mobile devices. Thats the only reason they are really coming last place right now.
People are generally in three categories.

Crapples:

  • Buy apple just because their friends have it and its stylish.
  • They have too much money and are happy to part with it, to ensure Apple's share price remains high.
  • Who actually uses a phone for business, pictures or communication anyway......

Droids:

  • Just buy android because their friends have it.
  • Also because they still believe there are few apps on WP and they MUST play clash of clans (srsly who picks a phone just for a silly game).
  • The decisions are often without good reason, so the owners are just hardwired to follow someone else, instead of lead.

Intelligent People / Power Users:

  • Get WP because it just works, is innovative and looks like it has a bright future.
  • Easily works with Linux and Windows environments.
  • Less bugs & grief than IOS / Android.

If microsoft made more expensive flagships (just for the sake of expensive and shiny) they can win over the apple fans.
If microsoft keeps the cost of building WP down and continues to inspire more apps, I am sure the androids will follow.

Breathtaking summation, the irony is just too good.

BTW  you left modest off the WP list.

Yeah even as a Windows phone stalwart that is an utter load of rubbish.

The truth is with Android you can practically live in the MS ecosystem if you want to thanks to all those fantastic apps MS have developed, why would you change?

Never understood the hate for Windows Phone, it's hands down better than IOS or android, and for an enterprise it's the only choice other than BB because android and ios are both utterly laughable for business purposes.

I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it. If you use my Quic signup you can also use the code R570394EKGIZ8 for free setup.

The current hiatus with releases of new hardware especially premium hardware is damaging the brand, I appreciate that Win Phone 10 is coming but it is still several months from release and the interval between releases of hardware is just too long.

And irrelevant. Windows phone is a relevant as Blackberry. It's a nice platform, just irrelevant.

Yep, and world wide nobody uses windows phone. With a sub 3% market share it isn't a mainstream platform.

I've got a Lumia as a spare phone, and quite like it, it's just such a pain to use with a lack of apps support. It's a bit sad but the market has spoken.

Just for example. It'd be nice if my wife could use it for running with as her iphone 6+ is too big for running. We're both doing c25k but the c25k app available on windows phone is different and has different times on it. The zen labs app is on android and iPhone and works well. There are alternatives but they aren't really supported (windows phone 7 app).

Kiwibank doesn't have a app, etc etc etc.

It all gets too hard when there are mature ecosystems that do everything that windows phone does.

If only Microsoft had not changed the platform so much - Windows Mobile 6, Windows Phone 7, Windows Phone 8, Windows 10 Mobile. None compatible with the next (or very little), The People functionality introduced in Windows Phone 7 included social streams and Groups, then Windows Phone 8 removed the Groups and changed the streams to an API that no one adopted and so on...

One day it will be working. Until then it's a big, never ending experiment in UI/UX.

Microsoft Outlook, Onedrive, OneNote, Word, Excel, PowerPoint are all fantastic additions to the Android platform. Actually even better than the ones on Windows Phone now.
