FWIW My wife uses the kiwibank site on her windows phone frequently while out (so not on wifi) and it seems to work fine - for transfers, payments, etc. I generally try to avoid doing banking on my phone, but just gave it a try on my winphone and it also seemed to work fine - both viewing transactions and paying a bill. I'd check the settings as suggested above.

ubergeeknz: It sounds like you have some of the data saving features on, which I understand will cause your requests to be proxied through Microsoft. That's probably where your problems are coming from when you're using mobile data, since you say it works on Wi-Fi.
Sounds plausible. Check the Settings, under Data Sense. See what's set in Browser Data Savings.
Thanks for the suggestion guys. I've checked all those settings but they are all switched off.
In any case, I now have everything working by using Opera Mini instead of IE. I've just completed a payment using mobile data and it worked fine. Seems like a clearcut case of incompatibility between IE and Kiwibank's mobile banking website.
