With the Vodafone SIM in it doesn't matter what is written in the APN - it still has "internet" for 2degrees yet works fine on Vodafone.

by the sounds of it, it has all been unlocked with a code like mine. Is your vodafone on account or prepaid?

and you still have the native BB browser? or are you using opera? Thus far I have not been able to get internet on 2degrees, so I gave up.

Yes it is the native BB browser, Vodafone Live works perfectly on pre pay.
Today I put the 2Degrees SIM in my wife's Sharp GX17 and of course the Internet works fine..... arrggghhhh Blackberry!

I then got an error message: Your device does not currently have any Browser Configuration Service Book Entries. Please contact your service provider to enable the Browser on your device.

Service books have to be downloaded from RIM, if you clear your phone you will need to download them again. 2degrees will have to pay RIM to be connected. RIM services should be unavailable on NZ prepay regardless of provider.

just an update on whats happened...

after putting it off for a while i updated the blackberry OS from 4.2 to 4.5 (in a last ditch attempt to get the internet working).
I had a scare last night when something went wrong and the BB was left without any Operating system at all... and just left me a simple 507 error notice, i finally got it going again this morning with some very basic programs (JM_cmdr, etc) and it was all go!

installed some applications etc on it (Opera mini, and i now have video recording!) and now the internet is running fine... turns out some old service books from when it was connected to vodafone enterprise was holding it back.

but ive just noticed (when i went to download google maps and it wouldnt let me) that there is no native Blackberry Browser to be seen... ive found that this was caused by the absence of the vodafone service books that were restricting internet access before the system restore.

all i need to know now is how do i get these service books back? (browser ones not enterprise)
in order to get my browser back... i can still use the internet, just not download from it, without the browser.

i wouldnt think 2degrees would want or have anything to do with it, vodafone woulnt exactly approve of my change to 2degrees, and the blackberry site keeps redirecting me back to the vodafone site.

anyone for ideas? i only really want to run google maps, facebook apps, etc

Thing is service books are supplied by RIM when you pay for the service, not carrier dependent at all. Glad that you have upgraded to 4.5, the Vodafone UK has the latest .163 release. If you were on account with Vodafone (not sure with Telecom) there are ways of getting the native BB browser on if you have at least a casual data plan. GPRS is in caps other than small, so would edge in the case of 2 degrees.

so why would RIM restrict the use of the browser through service books? i would have only thought they would only be for email and the like for when you were setting up emails, etc

not necessary to have a BIS just an on account data plan, not sure how it works in the back end, but if you have an on account plan, the writing GPRS or EDGE is in caps, where on prepay (at least on Vodafone), you can only have opera, where you can browse. This is from personal experience.

yes on account data plan, it SHOULD be ok.

latest is always greatest

platform version varies from release to release. Just because a more recent release has a lower platform version, and Desktop Manager informs you that it is a "downgrade", it does not mean that it is not a newer version. As the package version increases, along with the application version, the build date becomes more recent.

as far as i know about blackberry..

u need to purchase a subscription for the blackberry server..

in other words, u need to have blackberry internet service which is on vodafone they called it blackberry data plan.

in vodafone it cost like 40bucks for 10mb,where in telecom 35bucks for 400mb, but 2degrees havent have anykind of that service as they only have prepaid yet...
