Are the chosen operating platforms.

No Android, No WinMob, No OSX, just those mentioned above.

Its is few you're right.
But then outside of Apple which manufacturer isn't dabbling in multiple types of OS.

LG, Samsung, HTC, Motorola, SonyEricsson all use at least 2 different platforms.

as I was predicting earlier, Symbian will lose its hold on Nokia's top end phones but instead will be used in the mid (then low) end phones (as you can read in the article, although Symbian won't be in the flagship N-series devices they still plan on using it for many more years to come)

I think the bloggers lept a little soon. Nokia's "official" response to their speculation was:

"While it is our policy not to disclose details of our product roadmap, we'd like to explicitly communicate that we remain firmly committed to Symbian as our smartphone platform of choice. Any speculation on what our 2012 roadmap, including operating systems and product branding, are completely premature."

There's a good discussion around this at Rethink Wireless. Time will tell. There's certainly no reason not to further extend Symbian's reach into the midrange as long as the hardware's up to it. For developer's like ourselves whether or not Symbian's under the hood or not on Nokia's high end phones may end up being moot if we can develop apps for both Symbian and Maemo using QT.
