looking at youtube vides and people's personal reviews who have played around with the N9, the single core 1GHz CPU is more than enough. adding dual core it to it would not only suck more battery but also cost when clearly the N9 does not needs it.

I don't think the complaint is about the single core, but rather that they're charging top dollar for late 2009 internals where the CPU is concerned...

In Singapore, the N9 is going to sell for S$799 and S$899 for the 16GB and 64GB models. Given that the exchange rate is close to 1:1 it looks like Singapore gets a better deal.

i think the price is more for the innovative design and layout of the phone including it's unique ease of use and touch gesture orientation rather than it's internals...

looking at videos of the phone on youtube shows that it's quite an amazing device!

Agreed, to me the size of the device (not too large or heavy) and good battery life is important. This is where I think Nokia tend to put their focus. They get slated for having slower single core CPU's, however most reviewers lose sight of the fact that these devices perform very adequately with good battery life, something that cannot always be said for devices from other manufacturers.

2. nokia is asking customers to pay top dollar for software, not for hardware - something that i am not preparing to do. at the moment, there are mixed messages about which os is nokia will be focussing. is it going to be meego? or windows phone? pay top dollar for old hardware and os that may not be updated regularly.. i dont think so!

I wasn't making any kind of comment about the device as a whole, only suggesting my take on an earlier comment.

In terms of charging for innovative design and software: Apple can get away with this, Nokia can't really, but then they're doing a lot to make sure this device doesn't succeed.

My point in posting the link about battery life was that it is an issue on a lot of phones dual core or not. One of the points that came through in that post is that while users are unhappy about battery life there seems to be an acceptance that that is the way it is with smartphones these days. Generally Nokia phones have good battery life, why is that?

Are you telling us other manufacturers don't charge top dollar for software? The hardware is the easy bit, good software is the hard bit, I would expect to pay for good software. By all accounts the Meego OS on the N9 is very good.

You are also paying for the design of the unit, things like the curved screen, the fact there are no buttons on the face of the unit etc.

I agree Nokia are giving mixed messages regarding what OS they will focus on. However I don't think this is the problem you say it is. So far as the updating of the software is concerned, if it works well out of the box regular updates are not required. My 4 year old Palm TX is running the same version software/firmware that it came with and works perfectly well.

For most people it really doesn't matter if the software is updated or not (unless the original software is substandard), so long as it works well. Lets face it the majority of buyers will have upgraded to a new phone within 2 years anyway.

This is a third party solution called Alien Dalvik by Myriad. It looks very promising, though I haven't heard any updates since June on MeeGo availability. The company is definitely still working on it though, because they just announced that it will also come to iOS.
