One thing that I dont like about WM is the UI. Im not a fan of the "panel" look (although in saying that I have personalised one of my screens on my Android to have panels, much better looking though). Is it possible to personalise the panel look on WM? Or are you stuck with the boring blue panels?

Windows Mobile (WM) is very different to Windows Phone (WP7). Windows Phone is based upon the metro user interface that features 'live tiles' which update in the background and show content on them. You can move the tiles around to customize which one you want on top, left, right and bottom. You can also customize the colour of the tiles from blue to 10 odd other colours available in the settings menu. You cannot switch to a custom UI or another skin though. It's a different experience altogether when you play with an actual device and when you look up images on the internet.

Do whatever you want to do man.

I presume you mean Windows Phone (WP) rather than the defunct (WM) Windows Mobile OS? If the 'panels' you talk of are what is called the Metro UI ('Live Tiles') in WP, then yes there is a degree of configuration. Having had an android phone, I'm happy to say I don't want to return to one. The Metro UI works well and I find it superior. The next major release of Windows Phone OS ('Apollo' or WP8) will see significant development of the Metro UI that will help cement WP as the preferred  choice for a significantly growing number of discerning smartphone users.

Interesting though your implementation of 'Panels' on your phone. How does the saying go - 'imitation is the sincerest form of flattery'...

billgates: Looks like Vodafone and it's partners will sell the Nokia Lumia 800 for $499 on a 24 month $85 plan.

$499 on a Telecom 24 month $80 plan, $399 if you pre-register with the same plan Smile

Better get used to it mate! Even Windows 8 is going to use those square live tiles.

Hehe. Cheers guys for the response and sorry for going a bit off topic. WP (Sorry thought it was WM) to me looks so boring right now compared to Android, but I havent really seen much of what WP has to offer so I will keep looking out for WP. Cheers

You can start by running a Windows Phone test drive from your browser (it works on most mobile platforms so you should see it in your screen just fine).

I am being curious... what day is the media event?

I was involved with the making of the ad in Auckland and I hope they play it in Wellington!  My first time working with a major agency so rather exciting for me!  Lovely phone... I want one.

I've just got back from Hong Kong and had a play with the Lumia 800 in one of the Nokia stores, and I have to say I was really impressed with the phone itself and Windows Phone 7.

It was my first time using WP7 and on the Lumia it looks really good. Everything is fast and snappy, the display is beautiful, the phone looks good, and it was so easy to pick up and use.

I'm an Apple guy but not a fanboy, and iPhone needs to up its game this year otherwise I will be seriously considering moving. Even the slightly larger screen of the Lumia made it more enjoyable to use than the iPhone.

Obviously the app store is much smaller, but I'm sure this will only improve over time. Having said that the main apps I use now are already on Windows Marketplace, so I really hope WP catches on and gives Apple and Android a good run for their money.

As posted back in the previous thread Telecom are giving $100 off for people who preregister, have tried it twice now with different emails but I haven't had a promo code off them.

Has it worked for anyone else?

Not yet. Either it's duff or they are going to send the promo codes later. Would have been good practice if they at least sent an acknowledgement email. I rung Telecom mobile sales - the rep I spoke to knew nothing about the pre-registration deal...

Glad it isn't just me, when you finish the form it says "stand by for your promo code" which sounds like it should be almost instant but i guess it might not be.

I guess they aren't even in the country yet so will wait a while longer.
