Just grabbed a fresh 7130 and activated it on my BIS account - no BES involved.

As another option, Opera Mini also runs quite nicely on the newer handsets (7130v & 8707v).

Don't make me do a BlackBerry sales job on you... :)

m3mberman: i am currently looking at picking up either the new blackberry pearl or the 7130g both of which will not be sim locked.im guessing i would have to use the email service from another provider overseas if i wanted to use the wireless email service before i get to nz where i can transfer it over to VFNZ once i get here.

You could use the foreign SIM but the problem is you will have to have a contract with that network - depends how long you are overseas - and then disconnect. Also, if you set-up your BIS account with this overseas operator and register that handset you will have to get their support to delete your User Account - could get messy.

If you are only away for short time (less than 2 months?) it would probably be easier to take your VodaNZ SIM, make sure you have the BIS service enabled on it, and put it straight into the device, then go to www.vodafone.co.nz/myblackberry and set up your User Account and individual email accounts. This should be easy enough to do while roaming but if you have any trouble you will be making international calls for Voda support.

But even better - if you want a 7130 you could just buy it in NZ now?

Regarding web browsing, yes this is now functional with the BIS service (as of beginning of Sept.). Goes through the RIM relays and will compress/reformat web pages so data usage is still very light.

Ah... Thanks for the information. You see when I tested the BlackBerry BIS it wasn't working - and no set date for this to work. But Vodafone didn't make a big splash to let the public know of this change. And here we keep saying "no it doesn't work".

Vodafone should have a blog, or help us help you...

Yes, you can. But what are Vodafone NZ Blogging Policies? Do they approve? Do they "get it"?

Are they like Microsoft, or like Telstra?
