Stan, before you exit the frypan, have you tried a factory reset and starting with a clean OS? I assume you are not rooted etc and using stock firmware/OS etc so use Helium to backup your apps. Might buy you some time while either WP improves a bit or new Android versions come out that you like. Of course there is always iOS as well.

I think we can all agree that WP7 was a fail, lessons learnt and all that stuff, indications are that WP8 will not suffer a similar fate so becomes a bit of a moot point.

Looking from a consumer perspective, anyone who has bought a WP8 phone in the last 12 months will be on or will nearly be running the most up to date OS version plus are basically guaranteed an 8.1 upgrade, the same cannot be said for consumers who have bought an android in the last 12 months, very very few are running the most current OS and most will be 12 to 18 months behind with no guaranteed update path

I don't think WP7 was a failure it was a step in the evolution, just like Windows 95 was a step in the evolution.

But WP7 did not evolve into WP8, users had to jump off the WP7 wagon and then onto the WP8 wagon, that's a "phase out-->phase in" which is not evolution surely? The impact of WP7 on WP8 was a bit like Oracle's two point penalty before it had even began to race

I think 'evolution' in terms of what they learned in WP7 they applied to WP8.

Yeah, I get that it might have been a wrench for those who bought WP7 phones but if you buy 'mid-range' Android prepare for you hardware to be out of date an unable to run the new version in under a year.

Stan:I understand that my local bank will most likely not have an app..

I've used both BNZ and Kiwibank's mobile websites quite happily on windows phone.   I just pin them to the start screen, and they may as well be apps.

If the rumours prove to be accurate then Google has some pretty interesting cards up its sleeve to starve off the fragmentation debate though, it still won't help most consumers to have the latest OS but at least new features, look and feel can be realised independent of the OEM's and their update process

I brought a Windows 8 mobile for work purposes along side using my Samsung S4 Android.
However when my S4 was being fixed I had was so annoyed using the Nokia 920.

Windows 8 like the other writer said before still in infancy stage . While Windows 8 performs very well on general use I had problems with internet explorer not rendering pages properly.

I was on the phone and my GF was reading her library card number but because mobile office kept popping out whenever I lean my face over to the phone back to the calling screen Windows mobile just turned me off.

Also I like to customize my mobile and so the existing keyboard was extremely hard for me to input. I use Go keyboard and change the keyboard to the T9 style like in the old mobile.

Yea... There are like hardly any games to play on the OS. It's like just there.. an OS just to fit into the category of being the 3rd main mobile OS.

I like how the mobile integrates the photos to facebook though.

I wouldn't recommend Windows Mobile now and later on the year I'm gonna sell my Nokia 920.

It's Windows Phone 8, not Windows Mobile or Windows 8 Phone or Windows 8 Mobile

Could you describe more about what this problem is please

I've used iOS, Android and WP7/8 and WP has been my favorite experience. It is by far the best PHONE, though most of the apps I want are now available. UI is fluid and never slows down or stalls, Social networking is built into the phone at the OS level (FB message is part of the text message app) and Bing maps allows you to download up to 2 countries worth of maps for local storage and offline use.

Once Sony EOL my Xperia Z which I anticipate will be after 4.4 update i'll go back to WP. Those Lumia cameras are just too good to resist.

Actually in WP8 you can download as much as your phone is able to hold. I downloaded maps for Spain, Italy, Switzerland, France, and still had my NZ maps too. It was immensely helpful for our Europe trip since I didn't need data to get around.

I am thinking about going from Android - WP8. It feels like google is pushing all their services on me and I don't like it.

Chrome, Drive, Gmail, Google (Search), Google settings, Google+, Hangouts, Play books, Play games, Play Music, Play newsstand, Play Store, Stocks (Think that is Google?)

The only ones of those I use are Search, Play Store and very rarely Play Music. Sure it will be different for everyone but that's just me.

However the 1520 is too big for me and the 1020 is too small. Hopefully next year there will be something in the middle.

Really? Do you think microsoft and nokia are not going to offer you their services? Good thing about Android, you can always uninstall them
