I bought one of these yesterday from PI and seems to be going alright. I have it encased in its little wallet but I agree about the build quality. You expect something that's over $1000 to be built better. One thing that puzzles me is that when the phone rings and I open the wallet thing, the phone is ready to talk into without my having pushed any buttons on it.
eg, it rang once - I opened the wallet and just talked into it. This happened each time I answered it today.

Everything else seems to be OK so far. Browser works (during the small time I used it), and so does email with iHug and texting.

I haven't tried putting music on it yet.

GPS is a bit of a mystery to me as well. I'll have to have a read of the other thread to see what app works best for people etc.

Yea, I find that it always rings the last person on my "call log" all the time so I always make sure that the last called number is a free one (i.e. 0- 800 or so). The key lock seems to be turned off all the time when I know that I have turned it on, I think it's because the "wallet thingy" pushes on the buttons in the right order to unlock the key pad and make a call.

It's kind of annoying and if anyone knows how to change the key lock key press combination please let me know.

Can't beat the burble of that American V8. Ohh yea!

hmm, I don't mean that the phone calls people accidentally.
I mean that if I have an incoming call, and I hear the phone ringing, I will open up the case and just talk into the phone without having had to press a button to answer the call. Is that normal?

Check the profile (PROGRAMS >> TOOLS >> SETTINGS >> GENERAL >> PERSONALIZE) There is an auto answer option.

My problem is when the phone rings I have to be so delicate to take it out my pocket because the wallet automatically pushes the center (enter) button and that answers the call. It would be nice if you could choose which buttons answer / auto-unlock.

Secondly I just got a 7" screen for my car and a sony XPLODE mp3 player (Something 2500) that has blue tooth. When using the bluetooth the car kit kicks in, however if I have my screen plugged in (For the GPS) then it automatically tries to send the audo down the audio/visual cable rather than the bluetooth would be nice if you could select the audio output default rather than it choosing it for you :/

Must say the 7" screen with MGMaps is great!!!

That is quite true,I had the same problem when I was using the wallet.If you dont use the wallet it wont auto answer the calls.

I bought one of those crystal cases yesterday from First Mobile for my N95.
It's quite good; comes in two pieces of course: one for the bottom and one for the slidey top part.
The bottom has cut outs for all plug-holes, card holes and camera lens; and top has cutouts for the navigation keys and forward-facing camera.

In the pocket it does feel a bit less bulky that the leather case that comes with the unit.
The only downer is that it tends to slide open in your jeans pocket (exposing the 'play', 'fast forward' buttons, etc).
It's OK in your shirt pocket (if your shirt has a pocket). I also notice the edge of the crystal cover intrudes out slightly over the media keys when the top is open to the media player position.

I will upload a pic when I can.

I had a crystal case for my K750i which served me well, but of course that didn't have the sliding top.

Anyone else have any recommendations or experience with different cases?

Just to let everyone know I bought one of these phones a few days ago from Ascent Technology in Wellington.
So far I like it very much-after using the Jassjar which I still have I only do not like txting the old fashion way with the numeric keypad-may have to seriously looks at the BT Keyboard but they seem a bit pricey at over $250 or so.
Id be grateful for any ideas re 3rd party software etc

Welcome to the club!

In terms of software recommendations it would be helpful to know what you need to use the phone for?

I use mine for a variety of purposes, here is some of the software I've found useful:

Oxford Dictionary Viewer (for the medical dictionary)

PDF+ - better than the inbuilt Adobe PDF (to view medical textbooks)

Salling Clicker - I do powerpoint presentations relatively frequently from my laptop and using the phone to control the powerpoint (via bluetooth) is nice, it also controls WMP and iTunes and I use that facility from time-to-time.

ScanR is quite good, but you really need to have a Wireless connection handy to make the most of it - it sends photos via the net and they are sent back as printable PDFs (with some enhancements to text quality), I've used it during group work as a way to capture whiteboard work and so forth.

ACVM 2 is good - voicemail manager and beepless call recorder (never pay Vodafone for retrieving your voicemail again!).

WWIGO is nice if you ever need to use your phone as a webcam - and its freeware!

If you have a decent data plan them Mobile Gmaps (MGMaps) is worth checking out if you want to use GPS, the inbuilt one is very good, but sadly the New Zealand maps are still very poor.

If you like handheld gaming then VbagX is recommended (GBA emulator), Platinum Sudoku and Ludimate Sensible Sudoku are both good, C2Doom is nice (runs Doom WADS).

Im in the medical field too so anything related to that be usefull!!
I tried the GPS once just too see its functionality and yes I saw some nearby streets but they werent named!!

Im not too worried re this at mo-as I have 2 stand alone GPS units for hobby and car plus my data plan couldnt cope with too much " Playing around" with this application.

Yup a few games are nice and looking at upgrading the firmware as mentioned in another thread

How much did you pay for it? I bought a $10 case and it was rubbish so I threw it out. I guess you get what you pay for. I thought that I would be better off just keeping the phone in my original case.

I ended up getting the Nokia BT Keyboard-real cool folding the thing open connecting by BT and away typing you go.
Takes only a few minutes to get the mechanics as to how to use capitals and numbers but its real useful.
Has a few little shortcut buttons as well-email,main menu etc

My phone wasnt turning on so I gave it to PI to get it fixed, got it back last week and after turning it on I charged it but it doesnt retain charge,as soon as i unplug the charger it goes off and doesnt turn on.I tried charging my phones battery on my mates N95 and it charges fine and my phone turns on aswell but doesnt charge with my phone.Really disappointed :(
