TeaLeaf: well the 735 is nearly half the price of the 930, but clearly much less hardware packed inside. a good buy at that price.

whatever i get its going to run 8.1 faster than the 620.

is there any overclocking apps for windows? haha. ram i think is the main issue.

2.2 GHZ quad core, 2GB ram and an adreno 330 does sound beast mode.

Don't be fooled by specs, sure the 2.2 GHZ is going to perform faster, but the 1.2 GHZ quad core with Windows phone 8.1 gives very good performance.
My 830 has 110 apps (yep I just counted them) and it is as smooth as butter still, whereas my old Galaxy S3 with a 1.4 GHZ processor and a few apps, runs like a dog with 3 legs.

1GB of RAM in the 830 and 735 is good too. And after all, it's a phone, in my opinion you don't need heaps of RAM or a powerful CPU when ultimately you are just taking the odd photo, playing a few games or watching the odd video.

If you are close to a Harvey Norman, or JB-Hifi or Vodafone etc, I'd recommend going and trying the 735, 830 and 640. I think you will be surprised at how well they perform.

thats true. i use VERY few apps. im not a fan of app based development. most are a let down in design. so i tend to stick with what i would use a phone and PDA for. the 1GHZ dual core and 512MB is slow though with the 620, it will just hang occasionally, then resolve itself. mind you its had multiple updates it wasnt designed for so its paid itself off a log time ago.

still keen on the 930 for the camera though. as a photo enthusiast and not one that is into carrying a camera everywhere, this could be a big thing for me.

dont get me wrong, ive not written off the 735, its clearly good bang for buck.

Windows 10 Mobile will support external peripherals like any branded Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

Edit - I believe Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 support these atm.

The person I sold my 720 to just bought it while waiting for her 735 to arrive.  Now that it has, she actually likes the 720 better, partly because of the dedicated camera button, but also because of its better battery life.  She finds the 735 doesn't last anywhere near as long as the 2-year old 720 I sold her.  TBH, that's a real surprise, as I expect the battery in the 720 doesn't last as long as it did originally.
.

Worse battery life could be due to swapping / hunting lower signal 4G. Be interesting to see if locked to 3G only if battery life is better.

I'm curious, what is it about the newer chipset that makes them able to support continuum where the old ones can't?

Have had a 735 for a few months as a replacement/upgrade from a 520.
Don't have an issue with battery life, getting better performance than the 520 or my S4 Mini.
735 has better outdoors screen than any of them (or an 830 or 920) and wireless charging is something I'd miss now too.
My downside is its physical length over the 520, which was an easier fit in a shirt pocket.

Yep the 1020 was the original go to phone next for me, until I read about speed of shooting. Is it that bad? MP dont mean much, Ill have to look into its aperture etc.

From all accounts when it does take pics they are as good as nearly all point and shoot cames including the sony rx100 (but not quite)
