The lack of app support on windows is the big problem, including googles apps. Some of the windows handsets are a really good price, but if they don't have the apps, they are largely a paperweight, and you need a secondary apple or android device. The same is true windows desktop tablet interface, it is a waste of time. Many developers seem to have also dropped windows support. Non of the third party youtube apps work on windows tablet interface anymore.

MikeB4: All platforms are irrelevant if you don't use it.

Yep, and world wide nobody uses windows phone. With a sub 3% market share it isn't a mainstream platform.

I've got a Lumia as a spare phone, and quite like it, it's just such a pain to use with a lack of apps support. It's a bit sad but the market has spoken.

What apps are you missing?

Just for example. It'd be nice if my wife could use it for running with as her iphone 6+ is too big for running. We're both doing c25k but the c25k app available on windows phone is different and has different times on it. The zen labs app is on android and iPhone and works well. There are alternatives but they aren't really supported (windows phone 7 app).

Kiwibank doesn't have a app, etc etc etc.

It all gets too hard when there are mature ecosystems that do everything that windows phone does.

Actually, that is a good point!

Often, the iOS and Android app will come from the same company. Windows Phone will have a similar app. But, from another company.

As far as Kiwibank goes.. I won't do banking on a phone.. too much risk:)

Rubbish!  It's no riskier than doing it on any other portable PC which could be stolen.

The Kiwibank mobile banking website works really well on a small screen.  For added security, you can only send money to payees that are already set up.

Microsoft Outlook, Onedrive, OneNote, Word, Excel, PowerPoint are all fantastic additions to the Android platform. Actually even better than the ones on Windows Phone now.

What business do you do on your WP?

Lync, Exchange ActiveSync, IE, Office, Onedrive.. What more do you want?

What is the best Google Drive app for Windows Phone?

The one I'm using (Google Drive on WP) works OK for what it does, but I can only download files, not upload (except for pictures).  Would like something better as I've had bad experiences with OneDrive, and others in my circle of colleagues can't use it.

I suppose you won't do anything over WiFi either then?

Kind of limits your options if you insist on being tethered to a LAN cable whenever you're doing online banking.

Haven't you heard of 128-bit encryption as used by all the banks?  This works regardless of whether you're using a phone or any other computer.  I've yet to see any cases where that encryption has been broken.  All NZ banks have been using it for almost 20 years now, so it is well-proven technology.

Nothing wrong really. Or are you talking about the user interface? There is a very clear distinction between OS, UI and UX.

You are right to a point, core Android and pure Android(Nexus) is OK its the myriad of OEM butchery makes the Android experience painful.

I can't see how the app problems is going away. Not unless they create an android emulator, that will let all android apps work on windows. Infact I can't see why they don't do that, although google won't like that. If you were an app developer, you are always going to write it for the OS that has the most users, as it has a better ROI.

It all seems too little too late. The biggest problem is, that given that Windows Phone is so far behind. The market is quite mature, is that there really is no compelling reason to choose Windows Phone if you are embedded in another ecosystem. It has a different UI but what does it offer that is truly different?
