As others have pointed out, you never be able to use the native Blackberry browser without subscribing to BIS / BES as thats part of what you pay for (incl data compression)

All you can do is get a work around using Opera Mini. (new version just came out which is great! Looks and acts even better that Safari!)

yea, using opera and its sweet. but all i needed the bb browser for was to download Google maps and possibly the Facebook app. is there any workaround to this? 
i noticed i cant download it from the Google site through my computer, and put it through the application loader. is there another site i would be able to do this from? 



i have another BB curve on hand with google maps, if its possible to extract it from this... any ideas?

You can try getting it here and let us know :)

just in case

   1. You only need the first file you pointed to.
   2. download the zipped file and unzip it.
   3. Connect your Blackberry to the PC,
   4. In Desktop Manager (on the PC) click on the icon "application Loader"
   5. Click "Next"
   6. Click on the "add" button
   7. Find the file gmm_160.alx in the directory where you placed the unzipped file you downloaded earlier
   8. Click on Next
   9. Click on Finish

Problem is there are different versions for Blackberry due to different models and screen size, some touch some not..

When you visit those site with the BB browser, it auto detects the model, and downloads the appropriate file. Unsure of a work around for that.

But you also miss out on BBM goodness, as well as primo apps that use the BIS-B connection..

Does 2degrees allow the use of Opera Mini? Vodafone blocks everything but the native browser for prepay customers.

Who told you this? I have used various other browsers on VF Prepay Connections including Opera Mini. Are you sure that you don't have a settings issue - I haven't heard of VF blocking any software as such - maybe JohnR will comment?

yea not sure where you heard that, ive used opera mini on both 2 degrees and vodafone with no trouble
