Completely remove Bluespace (or whatever its called)- its complete trash. Follow the instructions regarding using the Widcomm drivers and it works a treat on my Sony PCG-TR1 - at last I can remove any connection with my laptop at work - just have the iPaq sat in its cradle on the other side of the desk and activesync happily with them - just as I Bluetooth activesync with my work pc.
Genius.
Thanks to the guys that have actually sat down and worked through the problem and come up with the solution ! SONY should be looking to you guys !
Awwww shucks guys, thanks. I really appreciate the positive feedback, as does ebe. :)
Its nice just to help other people out with problems. Guess thats the reason I enjoy work as systems/networks/comms support.
This is a good example of one of the beauties of the internet, people coming together and sharing knowledge and information.
I did speak to Sony about this solution, the tech's official response was that they could not officially suggest that the end-user attempt it. However the tech's unofficial response was, "Thanks very much I will look into this further." So maybe they aren't all bad.
Maybe we can get them to link to this forum post as an unsupported solution to an "unfixable" problem?
Any ideas? I could try ringing the vaio-link tech line.
first of all thx .... got my Sony Z1XMP Bluetooth to work.
But now one littel prob: Trying to use a JABRA 250 Headset. I can pair it. Got all the services listet and it connects without any problems. I just cant use it as Headset. No sound goes to and comes from the Headset. And I choosed the Bluetooth Audio Profil in the recorder device.
Halleluyah! I can stop shouting at the wife and kids now. You are wonderful people and now I know I'm not mad. Have yet actually to do it and it would be nice not to have poke into windows innards but there you are. PS Using a Sony Z1 RMP and an Orange SPV E200.
Would like to ask a stupid question. How do you find out the VIDand PID number for the inf file? I have tried getting the CSR driver to overwrite XP's default drive with much failure and I suspect it's due to the wrong VIP & PID in the inf file.
Thanks very much all, this discussion has finally shown me how to connect my Navman 4100 GPS to my Sony TR1MP.
The only thing i'd add to vvv....'s advice is that, when updating the device driver for bluetooth, the 'don't search' option is the very bottom radio button. I got confused several times here, stupidly.
Yes, the latop can connect with other serial devices. Just not using Sony's frickin propreietory software...
Jon and others -- First, thanks so much for your Bluetooth guide – I’ve followed all the threads, and all the instructions to setup my iPAQ4100 with my Sony VAIO for activesync. And I think I’m nearly all the way there. I can actually get the two devices talking through Activesync, but it gives me an error message saying it doesn’t recognize the PocketPC. This is weird since the activesyn process seems to connect and get started, but just can't finish.
Now I think I’ve narrowed the issue down to the fact that on the iPAQ it says it uses COM port 8 as the Inbound COM port and COM port 6 as outbound COM port. I find this under settings > Bluetooth > serial port. These ports are not changeable.
On my SONY both using the WIDCOM driver, using Activesyn, and looking at the Bluetooth com ports listed in device manager, there is no COM port 6 listed anywhere.
This may explain why I can seem to setup a one-sided active syn, where my iPAQ activesync connection seems to connect to the SONY, but it only lists an incoming connection as active, and nothing as an outgoing active connection. That’s what I think stops activesync actually syncing.
So I wanted to try and find out how to get a Bluetooth COM port 6 listed in my device manager, and accessible to all these programs to see if they would help. All my other Bluetooth connections to the iPAQ work just fine.
GoodSync. Easily back up and sync your files with GoodSync. Simple and secure file backup and synchronisation software will ensure that your files are never lost (affiliate link).
Mark, the COM ports in the Pocket PC are only used for its configuration, and not related to the COM ports on the computer. Actually there's no configuration to be done on the Pocket PC.
now something really weird... I"ve lost the listing for my bluetooth radios in my Device Manager... anyone got any ideas how to get them back? I've tried rebooting several times and turning the bluetooth on and off... I'm using bluetooth built into Sony's Z1...
First of all Thank you very very much... I finally got my Ipaq 2215 to sync with Sony Vaio VGN-170.. activesync works great !!! :-) went thru all the instruction and all went fine... add com 5 now...
Followed all these excellent recommendations & so far all has been ok... However, upon trying to 'update' the driver, I get the message "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware"...
I'm pointing it at the modified Widcommm driver (btwusb.inf)
I've solved my own problem & thought I'd share it with you...
After going through many iterations of of the solutions posted here, I only was successful after doing the following in addition:
Boot into safe mode, then:
In the System32\Drivers folder: Rename bthusb.sys to bthusb.bak & copy your btwusb.sys into this folder, then rename btwusb.sys to bthusb.sys... Then follow the Manual drivers install from JonsGuides.com.
And voila, I'm using the grown-up bluetooth on my Sony A117 instead of that cr*ppy Bluespace...
I was looking for a decent alternative to BlueSpace for my new Sony Z1XSP. Main reason being the BT LAN support. Also I hate this BlueSpace GUI... I then followed the intructions given on this forum (thanks a lot, instructions were very clear) and have now a new Widcomm BT stack installed on my VAIO. Ok seems very well but...
It doesnt seem to work with my 2 phones: Dialup no longer works and also I couldnt find a way to get 2 modems (one per phone).
NB. I commute from London to Pisa every week and I need a different phone for each country. For that I used to have 2 distinct BT modems with BleSpace, with specific settings (AT commands, APN) for each. Would Widcomm driver support more than one BT modem device ? How can I do that ?
Also I couldnt make the first phone (T68i) to connect to the network yet (I am on orange GPRS in Ldn) although it was working perfectly with BlueSpace.. Any idea?
Finally I had some pbs with windows XP as well: the control panel can't find the BT modems at all in "Phone and Modems" nor can they be configured from "Wireless links". It also crashed twice the explorer when I tried to browse the files on my Moto V600 (they never showed up!). Have I missed something during the installation or has anyone had the same issues?
THanks a lot for your help... I hate to think that I have to come back to BlueSpace...
Thanks for this solution(Installing IBM bluetooth drivers). I also managed to connect my HP 2215 to my VAIO Z1. That bluespace software didnt work at all. SONY support sucks...!
