BrentR: They are available via Harvey Norman in NZ (not parallel imported)
http://www.harveynorman.co.nz/phone-and-gps/mobile-phones/microsoft-lumia-640-xl-lte-smartphone.html

You can put up to a 128GB MicroSD card in the device (on top of the 8GB of onboard memory)

Apps like NZ News will aggregate local and international newspapers feeds

Thanx but not at $499 I'm not buying it from there..

The finance committee had a play for a few days with my old Lumia 520 but decided that she preferred Android so will stick with her Moto G in the near future..

jonb: Lumia 640XL is $192 at Harvey Norman at the moment:

I've just picked one of these up for a present, and I really like the phone especially for the price. I'm now going to take a good look at the new 950's when they come out (with Win 10) as I need to replace my rather aged Galaxy S 3.

Is the Harvey Norman Lumia 640XL locked to any network? It states in the one of the reviews on website that it's locked to 2Degrees?

I don't know if I'd trust those reviews, as the other two listed on the 640XL page are for a blender and a mixer!

I'm inclined to grab one of these as a spare.  Great phone for the price!

I picked up a Dual SIM 640 XL LTE from expansys.co.nz when still NZD ~270. Very happy with it, excellent battery life and nice big screen. Have both work and personal SIMs in it ( VFNZ + 2deg ) so just carry one handset. It will also read contactless smart cards just like the 735.

It meets my simple needs: email, web-browsing etc.

It also has the "Glance" mode back so can have clock visible when in stand-by.

Yes it is.

Just been to Harvey Normans in Tory Street Wellington, and the $192 price is a LOCKED to 2degrees handset. If you want an unlocked one it's going to cost $499.

Update: Just called Tory Street, and I'm now told it isn't locked, and that one of the sales persons is telling customers it is locked, and cant be sold as unlocked.

Going back to get one.

1. They had black and blue at the store I visited, but given it's a run out item the colour range probably varies from store to store.
2. Yes (once released) as another poster has kindly pointed out.

Note the other post about the HN 640XL being locked to 2Degrees. Same with the store I visited.
