Yep on that version of Nokia Suite. Phone memory is back to 88.5mb free now. Of course the memory card and e drive are completely empty too...

I'm not too worried about Belle. I just think it's dawning on me that there isn't that much point buying NZ models anymore.

That's heaps of memory! I agree re buying off local carriers.. my last handset was a N86, bought it here parallel imported, funnily enough when I was in Dubai later that year I took it to Nokia Care for some work, they read the warranty as being all good and fixed it for free.. I nearly fell over.
I have just got my N8 set up for internet calls through 2Talk & any Wifi network I am connected to (or 3G if I like).. awesome.

My notorious N8 lives, well, kinda. It didn't want to charge from either the proprietary Nokia connector or USB Micro connector, however, I plugged it into a PC and it flickered back into life and I was able to move the data off the handset.

I left it on the PC to see if it would charge, but it only charged enough to start. I've plugged it back into the wall socket and the animated battery charging icon is displaying, so I'll see how it is this afternoon.

If I can get it charged and running I can take it to the Nokia Care Centre and have it looked at in an operational mode.

Has anyone performed a remote wipe (ActiveSync) on Belle ROM? My N8 is having an issue, even after restart, I have a notification I can't clear so was going to remote wipe to fix it, however, with previous ROM a remote wipe deleted some components of the firmware making Nokia store inaccessible, I'm wanting to check that this is not a risk with Belle.

For those wanting it Microsoft Apps is now available for the N8 (and I assume other 1st gen Symbian^3 phones) via Nokia Suite software Updates.

That's good news. I find the Office Mobile part of the Microsoft Apps is worth having.  Microsoft Lync and One Note will also be quite attractive to some users as well especially those with Windows Live accounts.

It's been out for other S3 devices for a while. The N8 wasn't on the original list for some reason.

Yes on basis of a quick look it seems as if it will be fine for me, but haven't rushed to delete QuickOffice yet  Undecided.

Would be interested to know if it is any different to that you got earlier on your other phone (E7, is it?).

Yes I have the E7, my wife has the N8, I haven't had the chance to put it on the N8 yet plus I'll have to see if she wants it as she doesn't really use Word and Excel on her phone.  It will be interesting to see if there's any difference.

I still use Quick Office even though I like much of what's in Office Mobile more than Quick Office.  Office Mobile will open .doc and .xls files but will not let you edit them, it works in .docx and .xlsx.

I have some files which are .doc and .xls that I need to edit on the phone so I still need Quick Office.

One annoying thing is I have never been able to figure out how to open a file from within Office Mobile, I always have to open via File Manager.  If you figure this out I'd really like to know. Smile  Creating a new file is no problem but after you save and exit I still cannot find a way to open  it from within Office Mobile.

I've run into the much the same thing.

When I do a Save As after creating a new document or spreadsheet it saves it, supposedly on the phone, but where I have no idea as I cannot find them. When I open Office Mobile it lists all the spreadsheets that I had on the phone already but those I create with Office Mobile just disappear somewhere, I know not where, and are not listed.

I didn't have any docs on the phone from before but some txt files - Mobile Office will open those but as you say only if navigate to them with file manager and click on them.

Doesn't seem to be any help file with the app either.

LATER EDIT: If I copy a docx file to the phone from a PC, Office Mobile doesn't find those also - but it did find the MSExcel files which were already on the phone from before Office Mobile was installed ???

LATER LATER EDIT: Ok have found where Office Moble is saving docs and spreadsheets I create but I as I said Office Mobile does not find them when it syncs so I can as you say only open them by naviagting to them in Explorer. But, as I said, my old pre-existing spreadsheets it does find. Will sleep on it Smile.

Well, the phone must have just needed a good night's sleep (it was turned off all night) as even though last night I turned it off and on multiple times and did the 3 buzz power switch push a number of times too, turned it on this morning and it immediately listed all the Office files on the phone when I opened Mobile Office Surprised.  It lists the People for filtering correctly as well, whereas last night it sometimes showed People, but only one of them, and sometimes none.

Technofreak, the files all open from the list too without having to resort to Explorer so this is possible.

Only matter I still have (and know about Undecided) is working out how to get it to save files to where I want.

EDIT LATER: It still, if I create a new file, Office Mobile does not sync it straight away into the list of Office files on the phone, maybe it just works on its night shift or it will do so later when it has had time to collect its thoughts  Smile? Seems to be a gremlin there?

Interesting issue with my N8 in the last week. It died in my hand, major troubles starting up, charging etc. Got it going with SIM card & mem card out, eventually did a 3 finger format, restored everything via Nokia Suite..(heaps more memory regained) same thing happened again.. sh*t, getting worried. Anyway, it actually seems that the phone was too cold. (last Thurs, Fri) Have kept it warm, got a good charge in it using usb and 2mm pins at the same time.. now going like a rocket. I called Nokia Care about getting a new battery in, but I don't think I will after all (they seemed very worried that it is an imported phone)
Just got Microsoft Office.. what am I supposed to be signing into with my email etc.. Is this just optional, or do I need Exchange somewhere? - I have my own Domain & email & that works fine on the Nokia email app.
Thanks

The Nokia email app still works fine for me.

I think I will be dumping Office Mobile as for me it is just a dog of an app, disorganised and not syncing locally properly despite lots of tries and relinstalls. Old Microsoft Pocket Office that I used on PDA's years ago was far superior.

Will just continue with QuickOffice which does just fine. Means no OneNote but it is virtually useless in Office Mobile and is never going to work with my large set of OneNote files on my PC's.

I've never been able to sync any local documents whether or not they were created on the device, copied onto the device or already on the device. I've no problems syncing with any documents in the email section, that works fine.

I see in your later post you've given up on Office Mobile, I can understand why Quick Office is so much more easier to use in many ways.  For Mobile Office I just open any documents via File manager.  I find Quick Office very clunky when using a spreadsheet, which is what I mostly use on my device.  So for now I'm persevering with Mobile Office.

I think it's a big fail on Microsoft's part not to have it working properly.  It was their chance to lure current Nokia owners to their products and platform, they're missing the boat. Mobile Office could be very good, some parts of it already are, but it's very fiddly to use in some areas, like not being able to open a document from within the app, or being able to choose where to save a document and not knowing where it's been saved when you do saved a new document. Frown

I don't have any email attachments to check on (I rarely use my phone for emails as usually have a PC or notebook handy) but I wonder if they sync properly because they are not in mass memory. I am assuming the E7 is the same as the N8 regarding email storage though.

I agree on your QuickOffice spreadsheet comment. Not too much of an issue for me as I only use a few spreadsheets on the phone and that for reference purposes rather than editing. But have taken your comment on board and will have a better play with the Mobile Office version.
