I went to parallel imports in east tamaki today, they said that they sold 5 N95's yesterday and they are gonna get some more on Monday .They had a display model but that also got sold :( Price is 1600 inclusive of 1 year warranty + $80 for additional three years warranty. Still cant decide where to buy it from :\

Although access to warranty benefits is reduced when ordering from Expansys, you do still get a year manufacturer warranty. The 3 year warranty for $80 is a plus, but the reality is that you won't be using the phone three years from now, so the actual benefit is questionable.

As I see it the choices are:

A) Buy from Expansys and save yourself like $300 with only a years warranty (additionally you'll have to send the phone off to OZ to use the warranty)

B) If you have cold feet pay a premium to get the phone here now with better access to warranty.

C) If you have very cold feet wait for it to arrive later this year and be lumbered with a hobbled Vodafone-branded N95 (granted you can flash it to remove the Vodafone firmware), but excellent after sales support. Overseas the branded N95 units are plagued with problems related to their custom firmwares (bluetooth problems, WiFi problems which are likely related to the fact that orange/Vodafone have disabled VOiP, and excessive crashing), whereas non-branded are stable (as a first release firmware goes).

So really it depends on where your comfort level is in terms of the cost:risk ratio. To each their own. . .

Incidentally I have found Expansys very good to deal with so far, I've bombarded them with 10 emails with various questions and their replies have been prompt and helpful.

EDIT: Just thought I would mention that Sandisk are stating that the N95 is compatible with their 4GB microSDHC cards. No official word yet from Nokia, but the speculation goes that they are keeping it mum until they produce their own SDHC cards. Look for confirmation of this from N95 users in the near future.

EDIT#2: Just confirmed that people were physically buying the N95 in OZ on Friday just gone, so all things going well should have mine mid-week, certainly by the weekend.

Wow, that 4gb micro SDHC card compatibility sounds good because I was a little disappointed about the 2gb max card compatibility. It would be good to be able to carry 4gb of data instead of only 2.

Can't beat the burble of that American V8. Ohh yea!

Just been to Etown, they still don't know about any discount, although they offered 20% off their (very overpriced) 2GB microSD cards.

On the plus side I got to muck around with an N95 - hot damn I want this phone now!

Unfortunately I've heard from Expansys, they received stock last Thursday but it went to orders that pre-dated my own, so mine will be sent out when more stock arrives this Thursday. I really hope it still arrives before the weekend (hoping to take some video at the Chili Peppers) . . .

Given the price drop at Parallel Imported ($1479) I may have to cancel my order and buy from there, thats pretty close to the point where the risk of ordering from OZ outweighs the price difference to my way of thinking. . .

We can't even be sure the user ETOWN here is actually someone linked to ETOWN since he's not using an email from that domain.

If something is written, people will ask in store. Just using the space for "free advertising" of their store is not nice.

It is good to see that Parallel Imported's price has gone down. I would prefer to buy from them rather than expanseys because of the easy ability to go into store and get help and the warranty, etc. I have also bought several phones from them before and like their service.

Yes, the Etown thing is very disappointing.
The fact of the matter is, they aren't getting free advertising because if they are that dis- honest to use this forum to advertise their store but not actually give a discount means that I am put off buying from them. How are they going to honor any consumer guarantees act service that they are required to give me. Will I have to take them to court if my phone breaks. I don't want to have to do that.

Can't beat the burble of that American V8. Ohh yea!

Hey guys i went to parallel imports in east tamaki today as to have a look at N95. when i asked about the gps functionality in nz they told me that they are not sure and you have to pay around $400 to download maps ,another guy told me that it has american maps and said its imported from america . Werent the maps supposed to be free ?? And the price is still $1599 hasnt gone down.

Nah.. I like when they dont have a .... clue about what they are selling.

N95 comes with a built in GPS module and a sw, which will download maps from the net.
Or you can download the maps to your PC and then transfer to the N95. You choose.
At the moment they have maps for 150 countries and NZ is one of the 150. So it's free.
And no matter where did you buy the phone if I am right.

However later if you need extra functions (like voice route commands) then you will need to pay for it I believe.

Well the price online is definitely $1479 at Parallel Imported. I'm thinking hard about whether I want to wait until Friday/next Monday to get the N95 from OZ given the price differential is getting so small. . .

As it stands now there is no reason to purchase an N95 at Etown, Parallel Imported beats their price by $70 and offers a full years warrantly (only 3 months at Etown).

EDIT: Aloha is on the money. Maps are free, New Zealand is supported. I already have the Nokia Maploader on my PC, so I can 100% confirm that New Zealand is there and maps are free (unless you load the maps each time on the phone on the fly, and pay data fees to your carrier). If you want "premium" services like voice-directions then yes, there are fees.

Its funny that they have no idea about the product; ETown is the same. I ended up telling a guy who came in to enquire about the N95 while I was playing with it all about its features, they were like "its the top phone, 5MP camera" and that was about it.

That is what I knew that maps are free and you have to pay for the voice navigation and stuff , but when I heard $400 to download maps i was shocked.

the BIG question is that...

Will the handset allow you to send .mid and .mp3 files? the n73 blocks these (among other restrictions)...

Is the SIP client unlocked?

I will guarantee that the Vodafone-released ones are locked up paperweights.

If they are unlocked for this type of function i'll be adding one to my next shopping list...

I'm based in Australia (Melbourne) - Dick Smiths here have it the same price as the other cheaper shops, at $1295 or so outright.

I suffer from gadget love as much as the next person, but the real killer for this device is the battery life. It appears to only last 24 hours on one charge.

Do a google on 'N95 Battery Life'

Wandering the aisles, there are a number of devices that are almost in the same class. It might be worth buying two devices instead of one, or waiting for refinement.

I'm not sure actually, I know that Nokias platform isn't huge on the whole DRM thing compared to say Apples draconian control over the user experience. Have you tried asking at symbian-freak.com? I'll try over there, if anyone would know its Teo.

N95 battery life is fine, providing you have remotely realistic expectations to begin with. Try looking at a decent report of battery life at all about symbian, rather than most of the material around the net on the topic which is utter scaremongering dross. Yes, you will need to charge it everyday (if you need to charge it less than once a day then its likely you should have purchased a cheaper less feature-rich phone), if thats a deal-breaker for you then by all means pass over this and maybe wait for the E90 which has a larger capacity (albeit with slightly worse media capacities) or something else. For me I'd rather charge everyday and have the more compact form factor - had one in my hands today at etown. . . so sexy.
