asmcar: I'd have to agree with the above posters, with time as people start to forget or realise they don't actually need another tablet or they are not happy with it prices may come down. I'd also assume if the android port takes too long then people will begin selling as many bought on the basis of having android run on it.

Will be interested to see the effect in the local market i.e trademe as it doesn't sound like there were many in the country to begin with. Although the Harvery Norman and JB stock I presume still needs to be sold? Unless the New Zealand distributors have already allocated the stock to full other orders. The next week should be interesting.

There are 300 HP staff wanting the 70 Touchpad returned, so no I don't think so

ahmad: And in that case does it not suggest the Touchpad is sluggish or am I missing something?

running webOS on the A5 chip of course it will run faster, but the touchpad isn't sluggish, for browsing etc it kills my ipads safari, I still haven't had to pickup my iPad the only draw back is lack of apps, but the range of apps there are do cover what imagine most peoples needs are

Whos to say a larger APP. market for this device won't develope quickly???
Two weeks ago HP had sold not-a-lot.... in a week they've pretty much sold out their entire stock!!!

Historically it could be seen as a very successful platform launch

I'm thinking webOS might actually pick up now

Anyone managed to add their NZ credit card to the US webOS store on the touchpad to buy apps?

Yeah...there has been a bit over debate over this actually creating the marketshare that the touchpad needed :)

From the HP US site http://www.hp.com/united-states/webos/us/en/tablet/touchpad-availability.html

Thank you for your interest in the HP TouchPad Due to the significant price reduction, we experienced overwhelming demand for the product and are temporarily out of inventory. Please enter your email address below to be notified if we have stock available.

I wonder what this means?  Perhaps the fire sale was a ploy after all, to create market share?

Also I wonder what's happening to to all the 4G Touchpads that were to be released about now.

From a HP news release on the 12th of July announcing the exclusive deal in the US.

http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press/2011/110712xc.html

HP today announced that the HP TouchPad 4G(1) will be available exclusively in the United States on the nation's fastest mobile broadband network, AT&T, in time for back to school.

I'm not sure what frequencies it will support but looks possible that 850/1900 HSPA+ will be supported.

Also I see that the Touchpad is still advertised on HP's New Zealand site.

It's not a ploy. They pulled a 180.

I think it just means that they have more shipments still to come into the country, the fire sale sold all of the local store / warehouse stock that they had but I'm not sure when they did, or if they have, stopped manufacturing them yet (May still be manufacturing to use up parts?).

Not a ploy I don't believe, just a sign this could be a long firesale dependant on how much stock HP still have, it seems as soon as they receive a shipment or are in a position to re enable their website it sells out in a few minutes.
