I have a dual sim XL, and I consistently get 2 full days out of it as a personal/work phone.
My typical daytime use, uses less than 30% battery.

I don't do a lot of calling but I don't make any effort to save battery at all either.
Wifi, bluetooth, and cell data - always on.
I was even tethering for @ 1 hr a night waiting for the missus for a while.

Oubadah:
wsnz: Last week I purchased another 640 for $229 from the Warehouse, but this time it replaced my own Samsung Galaxy S3 phone.

Is the Warehouse one locked? It's in the "Vodafone" category (not "Unlocked"), but on the page it doesn't have a disclaimer.

Do these get down below $229 on sale often? I want to try one of these, but it's hard to justify spending that much on this phone when you can get something like the Smart Ultra 6 with twice as much RAM, 1080p display etc. for $250.

As Nikt noted, no they're not locked. The special only applied to the Spark versions, and you could only get them in black. Not an issue as far as I'm concerned!

So it's been a few weeks now since I got my Lumia 640 and I really like it.

The migration from Android to WP was pretty simple, and the only niggles I have are about apps (e.g. Officelens) not supporting Office 365 org accounts. The youtube app fiasco irked me a bit at the start but now I just use the web browser as I do for the mobile banking sites etc., besides which it has actually caused me to rethink what I really need youtube for in the first place!

Battery life is excellent, the screen is fine for my needs, and so I'm quite happy with a midrange device, even coming from a former flagship Android device.  Roll on W10M!

Had my 640 for 24 hours and love it -- really smooth, and all the apps I need.  Transfer of stuff from my Galaxy S4 was very easy, and in all sorts of ways it is as good or better than the S4 (maybe not the camera though).  Staying within one ecosystem has major benefits -- especially in using Office 365.  Screen is good, and I especially like the ability to make folders of stuff on the Start screen.  The only thing I really regret is the absence of the KiwiBank app in WP (are you listening, KiwiBank?)

Very impressed with the machine, especially its cost!  Strongly recommended.

Hmmm, put my 640 onto the slow insider ring, and updated it.  Not a great experience, especially as the search button didn't do anything at all anymore (so no voice control).  And lots of settings, like being able to choose a notification sound for anything other than phone was absent.  Put it back to 8.1, which works excellently.  Not recommended for now, but it looks very promising.
