Chatting with mobicity just now:

[rep] Hi
[me] re touchpads - I placed an order on the 25th and bought a case and touchstone etc but now after todays email I am worried - is there any guarantee that my order will be fulfilled at this point?
[me] otherwise I need to return those accessories asap before the store decides not to take them back
[rep] Hi [me]
[rep] the ETA for touch pad is 10 to 16 business days.
[rep]

[[copy of this morning's email]]

[me] yeah that's the email I'm referring to - I'm looking for some sort of guarantee that my order will be honoured at this point, if such a guarantee is possible
[rep] it will be within 10 to 16 days.
[me] I'll take that as a no, thanks for your time
[rep] not a problem.

asmcar: Wow a 16gb one just sold on trademe for $391... pretty high, I suppose you get a local warranty but still.

That was me, i was sick and tired of waiting for mobicity to sort out their crap, so i just spent a little more to get one guaranteed within the week.

Ouch. Were eBay options no better for you?

I watched that auction with interest but it got far too rich for me.

Like many i have lost all hope with my mobicity orders so called them and cancelled after scoring a touchpad 32gb from ebay which came out to 399 on the credit card (nzd) so have just managed to scrape in without paying customs.

Very disappointed with mobicity selling touchpads that hadn't been built yet.  At least now i have something to put in the touchstone holder and case that i bought locally.

At least you have one guaranteed. I'm hoping mine arrives undamaged.

If I cancel my order from Mobicity will I be able to get a 16gb Touchpad for around $300 NZD including shipping from eBay?

You'll be pushing it to get in under $300, I think mine will end up $340 shipped via comgateway.

My advice would be win an auction on ebay before cancelling the mobicity, just in case they come through.

Would rather not say who i bought it from, but my golden rules with ebay are a.) make sure paypal has buyer protection for the auction and b.) make sure they have close to 100% rating and a few trades under their belt.

The guy i bought from has no more anyway.

I bought on a whim and I don't feel like being dicked around any more so will cancel tomorrow. If I have any trouble returning my case would anyone be interested?

UBID had 500 starting at $1 but of course that increased pretty quickly. Then after a few days the price settled to around $232 which is still expensive but not outrageous. Then somebody put in a bid for all 500 at $500(!) which of course stole the auction. I can't imagine why somebody would do that since you can't make money on them. Perhaps they had some project they were planning to use them for?

HP will have another lot for sale on their US web site but who knows how many and how fast you have to be to get one.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.
