I have time zone Auckland/Wellington D/L saving. Region set to NZ. Speech set to Australia, something I didn't set. I maybe missing something though.

Not sure what's going on with your machine, but I just fired up my test machine and updated and there's no functioning Cortana support for me. I'm surprised @nathan didn't say anything, one way or another.

There is one odd thing, the desktop is not showing the evaluation copy water mark. Its running 14393.0 (1607). I installed over the weekend. I have been an insider for a long time and its the first time I have seen no evaluation notice, I only saw it was missing tonight as I dug around as to why I have Cortana.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

This is kind of what I thought might be happening. 14393 is the final build (bar some .x updates that are going out to the Fast ring) and does not officially support Cortana in New Zealand but you can set the language to one of the other version of English and it will partially work.

To be honest I would not expect to see NZ support this year unless someone internally at MS is really pushing for it. It is available in very few markets and that number does not seem to be growing at a noticeable rate :( IIRC it requires a lot of work to be done in Bing that it probably is not that economical for then to do at any pace in New Zealand.

Oh well...

On top of that 14393.5 is a small update released today.

I have 14393.5 (consumer) and cortana works for me, although not keen on saying hey cortana all the time. Cortana has worked for some time without voice support for me though.

On the enterprise version I need to set the region and language to US as I was getting an error about not being able to get a language pack.

I can't get it working on mine anymore either, but frankly I've given up. It's pretty useless in New Zealand anyway and Microsoft don't seem particularly interested in making it any better.

Funny how I just watched the Microsoft Ignite Atlanta keynote and Satya spent a good time talking up Cortana and how it is used around the world... Not here.

Are you sure you didn't say anything to hurt her?

Has Cortana sent NZ to Coventry then?

I just found it handy to set reminders etc. Oh well..... stick to the manual method then.

Fair enough, I use Google Now for reminders, so I was more interested in the other features of Cortana. It was working for me on Windows 10, but not after the anniversary update. Sorry I can't be of any help.

Cortana's still working well on mine. I find her quite useful for "navigate to" and also getting her to read texts messages to me when I'm at gym\running with bluetooth headset on and don't want to take phone out of pocket\armband.   What version are you guys using? I'm on 1607, OS build 10.0.14393.189 with country set to UK, language set to English UK and regional formats set to NZ.

Over the weekend I reset my 950 (back off the insider slow ring to normal releases) and when I went into Cortana after the reset (with region etc all set to NZ) was told that Cortana wasn't available for my region/language, but if i selected a supported language (list included Australia, UK, USA and some others) that it would work.

So now have gone from having everything (language, keyboard, region) set to US and having an American Cortana speaking to me, now I have everything set to NZ and a fair dinkum Aussie Cortana sheila talking to me - works well!

Admittedly a hard reset seems a drastic step to go through to get the result, but it does work.

I have cortana working but I don't use it.

The main thing that stops me is having to say "hey cortana", rather than the name I have given my machine - which would help in a multi-machine environment.

The other thing is the lack of detailed voice training so that it can recognise my English accent. It would be good if I could also add my own voice commands to menus (shortcuts, contacts etc) for the same reason.

Same issues occur with Siri as well which is why I don't use that either.

Good feedback. We're currently working on optimising the multi machine multi room scenario
