sonyab: anyone seen firstin this morning acer 32 iconia $649.99 A500 and the A501 $749

That's a pretty good price.

However still not worth it if purchasing from FirstIn.

You can forget it if you ever need to lodge a warranty claim.
Really?  Good to know almost bought a laptop for my son from there yesterday phew thanks goodness I didn't.

They're parallel-imported refurb units (as is most of their stuff from what I've seen) - I'd be pretty hesitant.

An update from mobicity

===============================================================
Update 08/09/2011

Our agent has advised that two seperate authorities within HP have confirmed our order, although they have also advised that no invoices will be issued for anyone until the stock from the last production run arrives.

No ETA  has been given at this stage and given the last advice of a late Spetember delivery date, we wouldn't expect much further information to arrive for the next few weeks. We will however post anything we do hear that relates to this product on this page and as soon as stock is confirmed.

Following this we will also update our customers and then provide tracking information by email once we begin shipping. Until this time new orders will continue to be verified and placed into backorder. Order details can be changed and updated at any time prior to shipment, but an order is required to lock in your TouchPad as demand is still extremely high. If you have any questions please hit the 'Contact Us' link on our website or press the submit a request button above.

To place an order now, please visit the region-appropriate link below;

NZ - http://www.mobicity.co.nz/catalogsearch/result/?q=touchpad&x=0&y=0

It's an update from over a week ago. MobiCity send out daily backorder reminders (which are a bit irritating). Given they they supplied a fair number of units to Amazon (and possibly others) - I'm not holding my breath for some 2-bit outfit in Australasia getting (m)any.

Still waiting for my eBay unit to turn up, USPS is being somewhat slower than usual, grr. If/when the MobiCity one ever shows, looks like my sister is keen to buy it so no worries there.

magu: Absolutely. The difference is huge. Overclocking also made it much better to me.
awesome thanks will give it a go!

for the uninitiated like me, at first, i'm happy with the touchpad out of the box.  there is a definite speed increase after applying those patches..  i haven't done the 1.5GHz overclock yet.  i'm not sure if i'm going to do that.

Could be up to 2 weeks from date of shipping. Mine was about 2 weeks on the same service from the east coast.

TP update from Cyanogen;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IVkj_vdY6s

This is apparently running only one one core at the moment and the audio server is chewing up around 50% cpu due to a bug, so effectively running at around quarter speed.

Mine had a false start on the delivery front which delayed it leaving the US.

It is being sent "Priority Mail International Parcels", the tracking data shows it as being sent on the 9th and being processed through the foreign centre in Jersey (it was posted in New York) on the morning of the 13th but no info since.

Based on another item I received today which was sent the same way from Arizona on the 6th I don't expect to get any update till it arrives here in New Zealand.  The Arizona parcel went via LA and I suspect this might result in a faster arrival time than from the east coast.

I still expect to see the Touchpad next week.

Took 10 days for mine to arrive in NZ. No idea where in NZ it is though. Hopefully it'll show tomorrow.
