NZtechfreak:
Aloha:
psychrn: Further developments about the non availability of 4Gb Micro-SD cards.

I apparently got an email last week-not that I saw it to say that these cards are now unavailable and have in fact been discontinued worldwide!!!!!
I rang the guy atr Flashcards and he confirms this story.
He said blame the Ipod 4Gb devices that come with their native memory.
He suggested try overseas but they will be hard to come buy

There is even a 6GB micro SDHC card on Sandisk's webpage
Here

So why they would discontinue the 4GB?? I dont understand. They already announced the 8GB version too.

BTW anybody knows if the 6GB is compatible with the N95? :)

All the microSD HC range will be compatible, theres no possible reason for them not to be.

I don't know whether you can automatically assume that. I had an old iPaq and there was anecdotal evidence on the net saying that it wouldn't work with certain types of 1G cards - you could only use slow speed Sandisk cards or something.
I never got a card that big to try it - stuck with a 512MB card.

Just because it fits in the slot doesn't mean it will work? :)

da5id I think you misunderstood nztechfreak.

He was trying to say that if you have tested the Sandisk 4GB microSDHC card in your N95 and it's working well and you put in a Sandisk 6GB or 8GB microSDHC card then it will work too or it should. It's quite logical however I agree it's not always true.
Pay attention to the same manufacturer and same card type, just the capacity is different.

I know the various formats are very confusing indeed.
What with MicroSD, Mini SD and this newer one SDHC.
Im not so sure re the compatability of these SDHC in the N 95-if so theen they would be the way to go for sure.

Going to Singapore next week and was thinking of buying N95 for use on NZ network. Any advice about buying one eg what product code, firmware version, language options etc. I know I need to ensure it is Unlocked.

Thanks

This is what I meant. I'm running a Sandisk 4GB SDHC card in my N95 now, and I expect that the entire range will be compatible as they all work on the same technology. Of course its not completely a given, but its as close to certain as it really could be at this point in time.

I probably overstated my opinion somewhat (this is compensatory understatement).

Product code can be changed, firmware upgraded, so no worries on either of those counts. I believe the language options change with the product code, but I'm not 100% on that. As long as its unlocked you should be fine.

Let us know if you get it, always nice to welcome another person into the fold. If you do I'm pretty certain you won't regret it. . .

It seems that the rumours about the new black N95 8GB were finally true.
(or people are just mixing it with the US version)

I wouldn't be getting the updated version because it does not come with a camera lens cover, which is very disappointing.

By the time this 8GB version is out, I am sure the current N95s will be able to handle 8GB memory cards.

I can't think of any reason for this to be the case - why do you say that? I know they're still freely available on Ebay from the person I purchased mine from, and the Sandisk site says nothing about them being discontinued (thats one rumour going around). . .

Stocks are pretty limited, and that is more likely to be the problem I would think.

Ah the only thing that gets me about the new N95-8gb is the 128mb of ram, i could live without the other enhancements but extra ram would be great
