Does anyone have experience with either of these mice? I like the look of both of them, and the reviews seem generally positive. Is there anything else I should consider in a similar price bracket? I have looked at the Razer Death Adder, but I'm not hugely popular of the fluro logo (but thats me being picky, if it performs leaps and bounds ahead of the Steelseries mice, I'd consider it)

What gaming features are you looking for specifically? Laser vs Optical, programmable keys, interchangeable weights, dpi switching, etc?

It's hard to define that, as my incoming computer is my first rig designed for gaming, and as such this will be my fist gaming mouse so I'm not exactly experienced. I'm used to consoles, but going to uni next year, It's not practical to take my console - hence I'm new to PC gaming

Laser vs Optical: I'm not sure how much affect this has, everything I've read has been mixed so it's hard to make a call..
Buttons: I'm not particularly interested in mmo's, so only a few extra buttons are required (i presumed the extras were programmable)
Weights: I'm not worried about this. Would be a nice feature, but I doubt I'd use it..
DPI Switching: Again, how much affect does this have? not sure I'd use it
ETC: Well I have relatively small hands, and I'm not concerned about the wired/wireless debate (I'll probably only be using the mouse in my room, so the chord isn't much of an issue). I'd prefer to spend $60-$80. I could push my budget to $100ish, but obviously cheaper is better..

My advice? Just get a cheap but decent mouse for now until you know what you want in a mouse...

From your reply, I dont think you really know what you need yet.

I have A4 tech laser X-7 for 4 years now. You can find them on trademe at a reasonable price.

This is the best advice. You may find you don't really want a gaming mouse at all. Play for awhile with a standard mouse and get to know how you use the mouse. Over time you may decide you want some gaming features (or not). Then, take the time to get into stores and handle some gaming mice. This is especially important for people with small hands as most of the gaming mice around are designed for larger hands.

I've been using G5s so long the coating has worn off the cable and I had to go off memory as to the model because the label on it has rubbed off. Logitech do make some nice mice. As do Microsoft actually. I'm waiting on a Razer Naga Hex to be shipped to me, not sure how that will be.

Yeah Logitech's always seem to last.

The G500 is the replacement for G5, it's pretty nice but it's a lot more expensive at $75 than the G400 around $45.

I've been tempted by Razer mice a few times it's just they are relatively expensive.

G400 is great bang for buck at $45!
