Just received:

We’re happy to confirm that starting in July, Xbox One customers in New Zealand will be given the option to turn on voice control and use the existing English voice model.

This allows you to control your Xbox One with the sound of your voice, switching between games and entertainment by simply saying commands like, “Xbox, go to Forza Motorsport 5,” “Xbox, go to Xbox Video,” “Xbox, go home” among others.  This will be part of the public preview first, slated to be available mid-June, and will roll out to users throughout the market shortly thereafter. As always, roll out timing is contingent on user feedback and engineering considerations.

While the experience is not completely localised for New Zealand and we have more work to do, we want users to be able to enable existing voice models while we work to add more voice features over time through subsequent system updates. Our vision is to bring conversational voice to every country where we sell Xbox and we are working hard to deliver on that promise.

Well... I guess I may set my region back to NZ.   Till they try to charge NZD 120 for a game, then I'll be back to the US for long enough to purchase it for USD60

Warning: reality may differ from above post

Hah, yeah, needs a "Xbox, stop ripping us off because we're in NZ" voice command.

Will we see this feature (preview) automatically in July or is there something that we will need to sign up to?

If it's anything like Australia's, do be aware that the key difference is that "Xbox, On" is not supported - you have to get up and push the button.  It is likely to be like this.

Good thing they decided to announce this after I got sick of "Change your console's region to New Zealand" and migrated my Xbox Live account to the US.

About time that they enabled this feature, now they can work on enabling 3D Bluray playback....

Also agree with the others about how much of a ripoff games through NZ Xbox Store are, if I do buy games through Xbox store I'll be going through the US store.

You need to go to the official Xbox One Forums, find the preview forums, and somewhere there are instructions on how to get on the preview programme. Sorry if I'm a bit vague, haven't visited the forums lately.

I have received the message that I will be getting the latest preview, but haven't actually got it yet. They say they are releasing it in waves as all good testing programmes should do. Meanwhile enjoying the Brazil Now app. It makes watching soccer interactive and interesting. Hope they bring a Super Rugby app (probably just a pipe dream).

Any idea on the version number for the update?    I wish on the system screen that could put a 'last udpatedL   or   June 2014 Update applied message.

Still no update received. Perhaps they are having problems with the update?

This from the support forums. Only for the first wave. Don't know if I am in the first wave.

A system update is being released for participants in the first update wave today, 6/22/2014, after 2:00PM PDT. Please note that this update is only going out to the first wave at this time.

HOW TO GET IT

  • If your console is in Instant-On mode, it will download and install the update and reboot to standby.
  • NOTE: Once the update is available, you can manually begin the update by navigating to Settings > System and selecting System Update(Note - since this is a staggered update, you may see "No update available" if you are in the second wave.
  • If your console hasn’t downloaded and installed the update by 1:00AM PDT 6/24/2014, you will be prompted to do so the next time you start your console.
DETAILS

OS version released: xb_rel_1407.140620-2200
Available: 2PM PDT 6/22* (9PM GMT 6/22)

*This update is currently being targeted at participants in the first update wave. We will post an announcement when it is made available to the rest of the preview audience.

Accotding to the version number I now have the update. Everything working as advertised except voice commands. Tried all the suggestions from the support forum and recalibrated the Kinect, but still no joy. Doesn't recognise voice commands at all. Feeling a bit silly talking to the Xbox with no reaction from it!

D'oh, user error. It helps to set the language recognition to 'on'.cry
Works nicely most of the time. Very cool. Does anyone know if I should be using Australian English or English English? Australian seems to work fine. I thought there would be a New Zealand English option for the language?
