I'm looking for a gaming headset for my xbox one. I'm not a hardout gamer so don't need one that's going to cost over $100. Although I might be able to stretch my budget to that if need be.

My issue is when I game at night time and the rest of the house are trying to sleep so I need something that will help with this and also have a mic. Wireless would be preferred as it's a long way from the tv to where I sit although if it had a long enough cord it wouldn't be a problem.

Decent sound quality would also be preferred.

Thanks :)

Decent Quality and Wireless for $100 isn't that likely. A good pair of headphones is a decent investment but you may find yourself using them more than you expect and potentially for other purposes so consider a unit that works with other platforms or for general stereo use as well.

Kingston Hyper-X Cloud Gaming headset. I beleve PP below still does free shipping. You will however need to buy the official Microsoft Xbox One headset adapter if you do not already have one. Really good headset for the price ($108). If you are a staff/student at an education provider, you can get the headset adapter for $36 incl free courier directly from the MS NZ Store.

I've just been doing a bit more research and I do own a pair of Beats headphones. I read this can work with the adapter for Xbox one but the microphone won't work which isn't too much of an issue for me right now. It sounds like this could be a cheaper work around until I save a bit more money.

Once you have money to spend, could look at Beyerdynamics DT 990 Pro + Turtle Beach DSS2 + Schiit Vali amp. I use this combo with both my Xbox One and PC. Sound is amazing. I can hear the footsteps loud and clear and tell which direction it is coming from. I also use it listen to music on my PC and the overall music quality via DSS2 + Schiit Vali amp is great. Cost me $500 though for these 3 products including shipping.

Heh try a T1, they are amazing, and once you start down the head-fi route, it's down a rabbit hole for sure!

I actually wanted to buy the AKG K712 Pro originally but then found the DT-990 Pro at a really good price that I could not pass on and having read reviews online with Xbox One/PS4, it's open back performance was great. I probably do 70% gaming with the setup currently and 30% music. I am thinking of getting AKG or the T1 with a portable DAC for my evening walks. Certainly not cheap...

Haha I can already see how easily I could spend a lot of money on good headsets etc. Now just to finish studying and get a job so I can afford it!

IN regards to your following post, I know the headset plugs into the xbox headset adapter - but does it also have to have a cable to connect direct to the TV and Xbox?

I ask as my sons current Xbox 360 turtle beach headset connects to the controller, xbox and TV.

If it has to connect to the TV and Xbox as well - is there a cheap wireless alternative to avoid these wired connections?

It just doesnt seem to be clear on the xbox web pages

Cheers

Does it work with just the connection to the controller? I purchased the adapter for the xbox one and all I had to do was connect the headset to the controller via the adapter and it worked. There are settings on the xbox one that you can choose what sound goes through the headphones and tv.

Not sure about the Xbox 360 as I never used a headset with mine.
