I am trying to get my media files to stream to my xbox, and accourding to everything I can find about it online, it should be pretty easy. But it isn't.

Basically all I would have to do is go to WMP 11 and select share media files (I am using a Dutch version of Windows XP so I am not sure if I use exactly the right translations. However, when I tick "share media files" in windows media player and then click ok, nothing happens for a while and the ok button is grayed out. After a while the ok button becomes active again, but I can't get past this step. It should bring me to the next step, which is allowing me to click on my xbox as stream to device.

I have checked if UPNP is enabled in my router and it is. The xbox is connected to my network via wireless and in my router settings and can see that it is connected.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?

Some more details on my set-up:

Dell Inspiron 9600 Laptop
Windows XP SP2
Windows Media Player v11
Wireless router: Linksys WRT54G wireless
Modem: D-Link (standard Telecom modem) for ADSL
Xbox 360

Thanks in advance!

Have you checked the Windows Vista firewall configuration to see if the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is allowed as an exception?

Control Panel | Windows Firewall | Allow a program trrough Windows Firewall...

This of course if you are not using any other third party software firewalls...

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies! Through a Dutch forum I learned that you have to make sure that upnp is enabled and somehow it wasn't. Someone gave me the tip to do it through services.msc, and that worked!

Cheers
