I'm more frustrated by the fact that you cant just transfer the game to someone else - got a lot of games I've had for years (Since Steam arrived) but never played, would love to pass them onto my daughters to play, but cant.
Selling them, can see it getting messy and prices going up for new games.

I wonder if there will be a similar ruling for other digitally distributed items like ebooks, music and movies.

If they want to be consistent then that would certainly make sense.
I can see issues with people losing access to their steam account and games being stolen from them, with the things going thru multiple accounts before being sold to some unsuspecting sucker, so I really think that this needs to be carefully considered if its a good thing.
I would like to see the ability to transfer items as part of someones will etc tho, because I know someone that basically has 2 steam accounts now from when their partner died.
