Can be downloaded now but there is no offcial changelog on the NZ site, however one HUGE improvment I've noticed is a lot more of my DivX/Xvid files can now be played!!

I installed this one last night on the basis of the improved DivX compatibility. Unfortundately since the update the ones that didn't work before still don't work (although I haven't tried all of the ones that didn't work). Glad to hear that the improvements are there.

Swee-eet, thanks for the update on the update... I was going to run all my non-working files through something like super C in batch to get the 5% of my AVI's that don't work sorted... hopefully this will reduce the % down a few points...

UPDATE:
I ran the firmware upgrade last night. Apart from the other functionality mentioned, I saw no difference in the AVI files that couln't previously be played... bugger.

Joker97: No it cant. There are ways around this though which has been discussed many times on GZ.

Under the changelog for video i see sequential playback, does that mean the ps3 will finally play the next video in the list after it finish's the current video? oh my.. Finally!! (if that is in fact the case) i dont know how this wasnt included in the 1.0 firmware.

Yes, but you have to process them first. It's a passthrough process so no recoding is done, and it's quick.

That's exactly what it does. Now we just need video playlists! How hard can that be?

I like the autopower off after a set period of time of no activity. Kids often leave the PS3 on after playing a game. Now it will turn off when they walk away.

Another nice feature in firmware 2.4 I think is being able to power off the PS3 from the XBC. One might say not a big deal since you can use the PS button on the controller but it now means you can program a remote control to turn off the PS3 if you are using a USB IR adapter like the Nyko and others. For those with the Harmony remotes and the Nyko, Harmony customer support have programmed in a macro to power off the PS3. Works well.
