I've decided Santa is going to give me an Xbox Series X, but he's in no rush. Just wondering when is the best time to buy? I guess the better deals with eg included games will come after Christmas? How did that go with the intro of the Xbox One?

If you can afford it and you really want it, just buy at launch. No point in waiting for the best value bundle I reckon. I bought both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One at launch and had no regrets.

I won't be buying a Xbox or PlayStation this time around. I wasted too many years playing video games, peaking at 12+ hours a day at one point.

If you are thinking of getting Xbox Game Pass Ultimate too, then you might want to look at xbox all access, but you will be locked in for 2 years

Yeah I found that, but you need to be a Spark customer for that and I'm not... And can't switch broadband due to contract.

How come there are no bundles at launch? Is it not a standard offering? Sorry a noob with consoles.

Consoles will sell without bundles to be fair... demand is so high and due to COVID, production is under massive stress.

So don't expect 'massive' sales initially, with both Sony and Microsoft needing to manage stock to ensure things go smoothly from their side.

Do not expect any discounts or bundle deals until mid to late next year. Both Xbox and PlayStation are launching on within 3 days of each other in November and the stock has already sold for PS everywhere. Xbox pre-orders open on 22nd September at 8AM so you might want to be quick and pre-order it online or in store on the day early.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Trading in your console is about the only way to get a 'deal' as such.

I presume all the big retailers will deliver on day one here, but can you order online for store collection? I've never been in NZ at a sell out console launch so not sure who's best to order from Tuesday morning. The switch was so easy to just stop by to be games whenever and they still had enough stock allocated to get my name down.

Are there any retailers that will have it available to by on launch day?

I highly doubt it, unless they have set aside some physical stock for launch day release. Which itself I would think is unlikely, due to many retailers having to stop taking pre-orders since they have no idea when they can deliver. But I have been wrong before and probably will be again...

I am on the post-launch pre-order shipment due to a kerfuffle with EB Games payment system, and all they have been able to give me is a vague "sometime 2020" promise.

I would pick a good retailer that is accepting pre-orders and doesn't pre-charge you the full amount and just throw your hat in. At worst, if you find a physical unit somewhere else you can cancel it.

Weird question, but do you think the Xbox One S will be on sale after the series X is released? Looking at the casual gamer who wants to play existing physical games without having to fork out almost $1000.
