My 12-month subscription to Game Pass ended last month - I took advantage of converting the old Xbox Live Gold subscription when they introduced Game Pass, but I don't use it enough to justify ongoing $20/month.  However, there were a few games included with Game Pass which I would like to keep.  I can bu them outright on the Xbox Store, but I wanted to check if there are any cheaper alternatives to buying games through the Store?

Yup, or else wait for MS sales.

You can try places such as G2A.com however there is risk involved that 1) the key doesn't work  2) the key gets revoked down the line.

Personally, I've only ever purchased one game via such a site, and didn't have any issues.

You can use the digital store price checker of regional Xbox websites below by searching for you game or DLC and it will list the cheapest price on top. Don't forget to change the currency to AUD (NZD is not supported but you will get a rough idea).

You can then either buy gift cards from ebay or a private gaming website in that region to digitally deliver the gift card to you for that country's Xbox digital store and then redeem the gift card valu and buy your game that way as on the Xbox console by changing country under settings to that country or visiting that country's Xbox website, signing in with your current Microsoft account and then redeeming the gift card code. Use random address of say a embassy. Your credit card could also work to buy game directly from that country's Xbox digital store website but it is a hit and miss.

Ive found Xbox Gamepass Ultimate to be very good value - and I dont actually play that much Xbox. Its not really like Gold where you got crappy old games, some of the games are brand new!

I guess if you think you'll get a better return spending $240 on physical games then so be it.

Other things/options to consider;

1. If youre a Spark customer you can get on one of their plans that include game pass ultimate and an Xbox. Might make sense if you want to move to the new Xbox Series S/X.

2. There were rumours that Xbox stopped selling the 12 month subscriptions as they will combine Gold/Gamepass into one cheaper subscription when the Series X/S goes live. So things may change in November.

3. You can often get discounted subscription cards off Ebay and other sites. These are generally global unless they are for some "third world" regions. You can usually save 30% off the full retail but that may not be enough to sway you.
