Hey i have a question regarding the Xbox 360.
If i was to buy one, for example this one...
http://www.dse.co.nz/dse.shop/49b8e83b00771b9a2742c0a87f3b06f5/Product/View/YG5300

Do i have to pay a monthly subscription? For Xbox Live silver/gold? What exactly does gold/silver do?
All i want to do with the Xbox is buy the games, get home and play them. I don't want to be paying a monthly/yearly subsription. Is it compolsory to pay this?
I dont want to go online or anything, just simply buy the games and play them by myself.
All information is greatly appreciated. cheers :)

The subscription to Xbox Live is only if you want to play games online.
There are single player games with multiplayer modes which can still be played single player without having to subscribe to the service, however there are also multiplayer only games such as Team Fortress 2 which will require you to subscribe to Xbox Live.

There are also different levels of Xbox Live membership.  You can get a 12 month gold membership for around $100.  You can also pay by month or by quarter.  See here:

While it sounds like a bit of an expense that you can do without, I found myself using Xbox Live more and more once I got into it.  Plus its great to be able to get extra levels and missions and add-ons for games to extend their life once you're finished with them.  Take the new Grand Theft Auto IV expansion for example.  It's only available on Xbox Live for download and it's a whole new 10 hour + episode of the game.
