hi guys,
how will you get a ps3 to work in New Zealand? they have different voltages.
any guides or something online you can reference would be sweet.
also for games, PAL ones would have trouble playing back? since console is NTSC.

You would need a Step Down Transformer to convert the 110 volts to 220-240. You would also need a TV that supports NTSC and the games would have to be sourced from North America. I really wouldn't recommend it simply due to the cost of getting the transformer and how unpractical it would be (I'm sure there are more problems that I haven't thought of!)

PS3 games are region free.

i heard some ps3's have multi voltage PSU's and can do all voltages. or was this only on certain models?

PS3 Slims and Fats both have universal switching power supplies! I've opened both of mine up
The only major problem will be with blu-ray discs and having to get US ones, but that's ok, Amazon.com is pretty cheap for blu-rays :)

The button layout is the same as the NZ Layout too. So best to go either US or European, asian PS3s have the O and X buttons swapped around though, so are a bit of a pain

It shouldn't matter these days, over HDMI Pal and NTSC are the same res, just different frame rates, so your TV should adjust. Over AV if you were using it, then most TVs from the last 5 years will autoswitch to NTSC anyway

The only other problem you may have is downloadable content. If it's a US/Asian game in some cases you will need to change your region/country to download the US/Asia version of the DLC...I found this out when I imported MW2. I actually created a new account and downloaded the map packs and then changed back to my NZ account and it worked fine

Happy to be proven wrong :-) I don't own a PS3 just an Xbox 360 so was only going on limited knowledge. Useful stuff to know though.

That's all good :) use it with HDMI @ 720P or above :)
