Popped into Noel Leemings and EB Games on Queen Street.  No demo units at either shop, although neither shop was sold out.

Has anyone seen a demo unit in central Auckland?  I am a closet ds fan.  Advancewars DS is the best game ever created...

The 3DS is AMAZING!
I saw a demo unit two months ago in Japan and its just like you are wearing 3D glasses but you aren't!
The demo was in a dark room so maybe that made it better, but it still seemed like I was looking at some new impossible futuristic technology!

I was rather underwhelmed myself. It was exactly how I imagined, it was depth as opposed to eye popping 3D much like the 3D still shot cameras. Also tilting it too much would result in a blurry mess. IMO glasses is still the way to go for a decent 3D experience.

I think there was a demo set up at Sylvia park though it was close to the counter and i only walked past, has anyone checked there? Sorry if there isn't but with all those posters advertising it you would've thought they'd at least let you "see for yourself" XD

I had a look at one last week - they didn't have any display models at the EBGames I visited, but one of the staff had one that he let me have a look at.

It might just be me, but I just saw the same lacklustre animated-viewmaster effect that I see at 3d movies. Considering that's its primary selling point atm (with bugger all native games, and no online store yet) it's lost its place on my might-buy-eventually list to a new ipod touch.

I had a play with one last weekend at Dick Smith in West City - there is a demo unit there.  The 3D effect is really cool, but I found that if you where not right dead center, the effect would vanish pretty quick.

And the screen is noticeably smaller than the XL.

Still really cool, but not sure if I would buy one - would probably get an Xperia Play or a PSP 2, or just a decent Android phone.

+1 to Xperia Play
