I have been an AMD fanboy since 1995 when the only CPU to ever die on me was an intel.
At the moment my AMD system is keeping up with all my gaming and emails.
If my AMD died today I would purchase Intel stuff as it is definitely more powerful.
But in a few years time who knows what will be needed.
I think hardware is way in front of gaming software so a cheap way out is AMD, but where does the upgrade path go? Hmmm?

some new batch of i5-3570k are overclocking amazingly on air. This is probably a somewhat golden CPU but...

4.5Ghz PI 32M stable at 0.992 Volt
5Ghz PI 32M 1.16 Volts
5.6Ghz 1.55 Volts

I am against the trend here. I now use only AMD cpu's. I am not into gaming and just build everyday computers and media centers pc for friends and family. For media center I had tried intel i3 but couldnt get the cpu fan quiet enough even using aftermarket quiet fans. Not sure if it is the mounting of the i3 fans but always a vibration. I used to always use AMD and have gone back. Really love the FM2 Trinity series for media center and middle of road computing. Excellent value for money and can be made silent using original fan.
There is a place for both Intel and AMD but for me even for gaming I would still use the AMD Trinity unless I was going to be doing online multiplayer gaming where the slight difference in performance may make difference between life and death.
But after my experience for media center I cant go past AMD Trinity at moment

It would be a shame if AMD were to leave the home CPU market, but it's not looking good. As another user points out, they're the only company keeping Intel's prices in check. There will be no incentives for Intel to continue to innovate otherwise.

we can but hope that playstation 4 using AMD processors will help them stay . Definitely need competition

If cost is no object, go for the i5. If you need to keep costs down, but still need something punchy, the FX-8350 still fits the bill.

I finished my build quite a while ago now.
Ended up going for a i5-3570k for the CPU, an ASUS 7950 direct II 3GB graphics card, 16GB ripjaws RAM, 750W corsair PSU, my old 60GB OCZ SSD, and for the mobo I used an asrock z77 extreme 4. All wrapped in the corsair carbide 400r case. + a couple of 1 and 2tb WD and Seagate drives.
I'm thinking about getting a fractal design R4 case next though.

Nice build! How are you finding the 7950? Is it what you expected?

Yeah it's really nice, I'm using the Asus GPU tweak to over clock it, sits at 1100mhz easily without temps rising above 65*c under load. Performance wise, it does everything I want and better, definite bang for buck this card.

I really like the catalyst drivers too, they have been stable the whole time I've used it apart from playing Kane and Lynch: Dead Men, for some reason the drivers kept crashing, I think it's because the drivers aren't optimized for an older game, not sure, but when I put the clock back down to standard clock speed (900Mhz) it ran sweet, no idea what happened there.

Yea, I heard ever since the Never Settle Drivers got released, things have been improving loads with the 7000 series cards. I'm glad AMD are focusing more on their drivers now. Enjoy your new rig man!

but is Asus direct cost lot more then normal 7950 card?
you can manual overclock with other cards as well.

is it able to overclock more then most other 7950?

Yes it costs more, I bought it because of their cooling system and their higher-binned cards. I also really like Asus cards because of their build quality and tools.
I haven't used any other 7950 so I can't have an opinion as of yet.
