SeanoffShotgun: So Telecom seems to be an all round good ISP from your responses. I have checked this link http://www.telecom.co.nz/internet/ and the Ultra Fibre network is not yet available in my region. Is the ADSL Broadband pretty decent? I am tossing up between the Telecom ADSL and Slingshot.

If you cant get fibre or cable, go with snap for ADSL.

If you cant get fibre or cable, go with snap for ADSL.

Worth noting that snap will have fibre the third quarter this year for wanganui. You could start with snap now with adsl and change with them to fibre when it comes. Easy as.

Define what online gaming means to you?

Are you playing PC, Xbox, PS3? Do you download a lot from Steam? Do you play games which are more dependant on low latency local servers or are you playing games such as League of Legends and StarCraft which are typically North American or South East Asian based?

I'd like to think people would state Vodafone because of TelstraClear's legacy;

Long term support of NZ gaming community and events such as xLAN, World Cyber Games, AVT lan and BarCraftNZ.
An unmetered Steam Content Server (only relevant for non HTTP content and only extends to legacy customers of TelstraClear and now Vodafone fixed access currently)
Locally hosted and unmetered dedicated gaming servers for TF2, CS, Battlefield 3, etc.
Solid international latency and bandwidth typically.

But as a new customer who would be provisioned on what is one brand but still a seperate network and experience, there are many things that need to be done to pick up the game in that space as a Vodafone brand if that is something the VF leadership decides to continue to invest in.

I'd recommend checking out the Vodafone Naked plans.

I've said it before Byron, and I'll say it again.. The NZ gaming community appreciates and will continue to appreciate what TCL has done for the NZ gaming community, and what vodafone will hopefully continue to do. That doesn't automatically mean we'll tell people your the best ISP, or even the best gaming ISP in NZ.

Was Telstraclear an ISP that heavily supported gaming in NZ? Hell yes and they get mad kudos for it. But they also had an incredibly frustrating customer service experience, lackluster performance on DSL, and charge like a bandit for Cable.

How things will evolve under vodafone is still an unknown, their history in customer service and performance levels isn't exactly encouraging (johnr being the giant exception to that rule, much as you as Gary are/were the exceptions to TCL's terrible customer experience)

I think the reality is that for playing online games specifically there isn't really All that much difference between ISPs in NZ. Just go for the ISP that has the best overall reputation and price that works for you.
