timmmay: I would stick with the default brand of memory, Corsair, it'll have been more tested. 8GB is good though. I guess it's a toss up between a 250GB Samsung 850 Pro, which is super super reliable, and the cheaper larger SSD. With the smaller SSD you'd want another hard disk I think. You might even get away with 120GB SSD, but might be pushing it with the sizes of games.

In my opinion I'd go for a larger SSD.

I had a 250gb OS ssd, but titanfall+ bf4 took 100gb alone (that is a disgrace those games are so big, i think they use uncompressed audio which takes up much of the space I read).

After installing the OS plus a couple of other applications and I'm bumping around 50-60gb free space which feels a bit tight. And, why does windows require a 16gb paging file if you have 16gb ram?

I'd go for double the space rather than a 10% or less performance boost.

Fair. Not really bothered about performance, I'm considering longevity

Hello there.

Instead of starting a new topic and making a fool of myself as a first time poster I thought I'd post in here. I am looking at getting a Gaming Rig, ive only really had experience with laptops I had a nice customized dell that performed nicely for a few years. Untill it decided to shat itself, so instead of forking out for another laptop ive decided to go desktop.

I have a maximum budget of $1500 I am looking for something with a decent GPU, Preferably i7. Among a few other things now the question raises should I get a custom machine built or purchase one?

Sorry if ive broken any rules

Sam

I don't have much idea when it comes to gaming pc's but there are 3 for sale in the classifieds.
I would check them out and then see if you can get a new machine with similar specs for the same money.

Is this a good gaming rig for $1034 at PBTech this weekend?
http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=WKSPB2108&qr=mail__22B_06

Can add a 128GB SSD for the OS for $76   http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=HDDSDK1129&qr=mail__22B_31

Are you able to move your install of Windows 7 on your current PC to a new one,  or do you need to add that to the price?

Good gaming rig? No.. Not bad entry level gaming rig? Sure.
