so i cant watch divx from my computer to my xbox 360 through Media center xp 2005 or avi- do i have to use another program or something. i reall would much rather use Media Center as a central point for all my media. so please can you explain in more detail what to do? i have read some other threads and they say that you can use other programs or use plug ins for media centre or hack the xbox. i would much rather use plug uins for media centre
anyone ahve any isight or ideas cos it sucks not being able to use divx and avi cos thats all i have also i heard xbox put out an update so divx and avi can be viewed but i dont ahve the xbox live to update it. is this true
xbox can now play avi's and divx files. however it was via update so you may want to look into that. (surely you don't have to buy an xbox subscription to update it, all you should have to do is connect it to your internet).
as for playing the divx and avi files through windows mce xp i'm not too sure about this one as i don't use MCE but i don't see why you wouldn't be able to play avi's and divx files, maybe you just need the right codecs. i use the CCCP Codec Pack (everything you will ever need) it works great and is constantly updated by the community.
I've also been helping my mate out with streaming video to his PS3 and we found a fantastic program called "TVersity", so easy to use and worked first time, every time. wireless or via lan cable.
do you have a router that you can connect wirelessly to or via a lan cable? if so i would recommend that a lot more than connecting the laptop directly to the xbox as not only will you need a crossover cable, you'll have to manually set ip addresses and i gauge by your lack of knowledge in this subject the former would be a much easier solution for you.
You can't watch them through the Media Center Extender interface on the Xbox without 3rd party software.
like i said you should try out TVersity. i'm pretty sure it's the most popular streaming software in the US, i also remember it having easy to follow tutorials for both xbox and ps3 streaming.

well i got MCE to work on my xbox yay but in the end after installing a mod to play avi and dvx though MCE it crashed bummer ay. i have heard of that Tversity thing but i dont know much about it. and by the way im not that much of a lamen lol :P anywho what is tversity like. is it user friendly nd can you use it to record tv and can you still use the windows button the xbox controller to open up tversity?? i like MCE because you can sit down turn on the xbox push one button and get to your media but if it is easier to use this tversity im all for it. stuoid microsoft and their lack of codecs bacause most dvx and avi's are illegal
TVersity isn't a replacement for Media Center, lets get that out here first.
You know how Media Center on the Xbox can't access your Divx/avi files because it doesn't have the right codec support?
TVersity is a program that you install on your XP MCE computer that lets you 'convert' those movies 'on-the-fly' so that you can watch them on your 360.
Did you look at the link I posted earlier on in the thread? There was a section at the end that listed a different program called 'MCE Video Encoder'.
TVersity is a program that does a similar thing. have a look at it here.
Microsoft DO support the viewing of Divx media on your Xbox 360, just not through the Media Center interface. Basically, what you want do requires the installation of 3rd party software - think of it as a workaround or a 'hack'.
The divx play with AC3 w00t, cant wait for x264 .mkv support, thats the only thing that lets Xbox media center down, I use a portable USB HDD, transcode360 is a pain in the ass.
