Yes, there is a massive scope for difference in the game, where you can get social players, pvp'ers, pve'ers. And people who use wow as a kind of income, making characters to spam msg everyone about selling gold and bla bla bla.

And because of the huge scope of the game, you dont even need to do every quest in the game. Possibly only about 50% of them in order to actually reach top level. I found with my second character I missed whole areas which I explored extensively with my 1st characters & vise versa.

And levelling in a fun guild is a good idea, makes the trip to high level much mroe fun & entertaining.

DjShadow: might be a silly question but do they intend to re-release WoW anytime soon with all the patches so far loaded into it? thats the only thing that puts me off going back to it is all the patches use a fair chunk of my monthly datacap! however an option I've considered to get around it is drive to the nearest Cafenet wi-fi hot spot, pay $10 for 24hr unlimited data use and get the patches that way :)

Have you heard of Wrath of the Lich King?

Or World of World of Warcraft?

Hi ya,

My brother tried to get me to join WoW for quite some time, finally I gave in and joined up for a bit of stress relief and to keep in touch with him. Needless to say, very addictive... cost me a small fortune in computer upgrades that I would normally not bother with to get everything perfect... ie Wide LCD screen, new graphics card with high fps, surround sound and base etc.

Dath Remar - Reinhardt lvl 70 Blood Elf (strangely same as my handle here) also have a BE holy priest

I belong to a adults guild and it is interestingly made mostly up of IT ppl.

Me and my brother dont use the phone now, we just log on there and use ventrillo. lol

Err... why all that new gear ? im running it brilliantly on a motherboard and cpu frodm a rubbish bin, free video card from a friend and a 17" LCD. Im not missing out any anything......... :)

Sure, low end computer was fine for low level adventuring but...

1. (And this is the most frustrating one) Real Enemy players were fragging me in Battlegrounds, litterally running circles around me. I would chase them, but couldnt turn fast enough etc, sometimes this would lead me to run right off buildings.

2. Some visual effects are not supported by older graphics cards... ie You maybe standing in fire and you dont realise it. Of course you want to at least utilise directx9.

3. The graphics in WoW are really beautiful in high resolution. I appreciate the programmers hard work sometimes just travelling around.

4. The higher the resolution (and the bigger ur wide screen) the more demand on the GPU / CPU.

5. The expansion "Burning crusade" has a higher spec requirement than "WoW". Wraith of the lich king (3rd installment) is due out in december.

The two most important spec's in WoW are GPU and amount of RAM on the Motherboard.

I believe WoW best feature is its multiplayer features, entering battlegrounds with 80 other people and running dungeons with 10 mates is very cool... maybe a bit nerdy thru. :)

After the movie (Hancock), a small group of GZ Pizza Chch people talked about WoW and seems like we'll be forming GZ WoW Guild pretty soon.

I have tried WoW and even blogged about my 14-days trial, and I am willing to give it another go, seeing that there will be buddies this time to play with, rather than just me hacking idlelessly. Funny enough, my blog about WoW still stand the most popular blog post in my blog! Amazing.

Anyhow, in prepping for my re-entering to WoW... I currently have Pentium D 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM, Windows Vista 32-bit Ultimate and a lowly-pea-nVidia 6600 128MB video card with display set to 1680x1050 native desktop size.

What must I do to get better than optimal gameplay with WoW (and Spore, and Sins of the Solar Empire, and many more cool new games from 2007+). What would be an affordable upgrade for me? (Brad?)

Oh also... since my last presence at WoW was early October 2006... what's been changed? Will I still be able to use my character from the trial (from back then?) I heard that there's no minimal 40 dungeons play nowaday and more social game play? Was there such rule in the past?

Because most games are still only single threaded, Core 2 Duo or similar/higher will be fine.
And there is a system called Lower Ping that re-routes your connection via australian servers to get the best ping possible. Which in turn enhances game play. But not ultamatly nessisary unless you play Arena.

And then video, well x800 of any nvidia series is great. Especially the 8800 GT =)
I personally am still running the x1950 pro Radeon. And everything is set to full graphics, and I get a great ping on Vista. Would be better if I was on XP however, but hey, no biggie.

TBC Dungeons are mainly 10 man, for teir 4 equivilent gear. Then you move onto 25 man raids, which then get you Teir 5, then Teir 6 gear.
There is a dungeon progression, where you will need to aquire items from Instances (mini 5 man raids) & Karazan (1st 10 man raid).
Once geared up, you move onto the 2nd level 25 man raids, then 3rd level 25 man raids.

I am leaving some stuff out, but that kinda ourlines the basics.

A Raid (10 man or higher) can only be done once a week, and therefore you will need to play the same Raid over and over to get everyone in your raid group geared. So weeks of play are needed. miss a week, and then you fall behind, etc etc. All very anoying. Bugs me to no end. =)

PVP is all different, you get equivilent gear, but its more towards killing other players, rather than group killing monsters in Raid.

Hey chiefie

As per kinsten outlined, your machine is totally satisfactory, and if you were to upgrade anything the GPU would be the place to start. The 6600 was a average (but good) card and I will back the recommendation to 8800 (can get cheap from auction boards like trademe second hand) depending on whether your slot is AGP or PCIx. A word of warning, watch out for the entry lvl of each graphic card generation as they will run much slower than the earlier high end cards. An example is 5900 out preforming the 6600 (1st digit generation, next digit where the card is aimed).

When u had a go with the trial was it just warcraft? or warcraft burning crusade?

Without the multi / social side of WoW, I probably would of moved on by now. :) Theres only so much adventuring and questing one can do without getting bored of the game. The real fun is the dungeon instances with mates and battlegrounds playing against real enemy players. Usually a good idea is to have two characters.. one for PVP (player vrs Player) and one for dungeons RAIDS (Player vrs Environment)

I use to play on a P4 3.2GH, 6600GT 256MB, with 768MB of ram.

I had no problems what so ever, though I did get very bored of the game. And have not played for over a year now.

My time with WoW was with the original. Way before WoWBC, and it wasn't great fun namely because I didn't had a lot of time to play, and weren't so willing to pay to play online and as mentioned, this time would be different as there will be buddies. I too have tried EVE and that was good, to a point... but again, didn't have the time and weren't think it was worth my dollar because of that.

HOWEVER, it'll be different this time as I have more time in hands on most nights when my partner is out which leave me with peaceful personal time :-) Just need a decent GFX to play games that I can enjoy in full 1680x1050 and reasonable good quality (and not lowest-quality settings)
