Just to say that my lounge gaming/HTPC has been in a Silverstone Grandia case for the last four or five years and it has worked well/not been out of place in the lounge. Tried a variety of normal-style remotes over the years but usually just use a Logitech k400 wireless keyboard/mouse for HTPC control and made a lightweight kidney-shaped lapboard which can fit a proper wired keyboard and mouse/mouse pad for gaming.

My previous case was an Antec Fusion case which looked nice and was well laid out but just wasn't big enough after upgrading components - went with the GD09 because it could fit in a full-sized card while still pretty much matching my amp size-wise.

I would probably consider water cooling it if you were looking for quiet with those power requirements.

If you buy on looks and failed to miss the OP's hardware needs then please don't suggest a quiet fanless case or anything. Sorry but if someone took that advice you'd have some questions to answer...

No need to be quite so snarky - you'll put people off forums like this. As I said; its a personal choice on looks. From the way I read the OP's original statements (and subsequent follow ups) they're quite capable builder(s) so will find what they need themselves and be aware of all the restrictions. Just looking for ideas - so I threw one out there. I wasnt gonna spend hours looking for cases - just giving an idea on what would appeal to me (looks wise).

Having had a HTPC in the living room before, I'd definitely be going for on the quieter side of things if I were to ever have a PC in there again. Even with lots of fans, if you tuck it into an entertainment unit you're gonna over heat the thing anyway.

A couple of years ago a friend built a HTPC. For a case he picked up one of the very old school VCRs (a very old one, huge, with solid build) from a charity shop. He then gutted it and fitted the HTPC inside. As I recall there was quite a bit of custom drilling, carving with a Dremel, and fitting stand-offs etc, and it was a lot of work, but the end result looked good in his living room. Having what looked to be an antique VCR in the Cabinet under the telly, when it was actually a well-specced HTPC was pretty clever, with an appealingly retro look. It was big enough that with a fan fitted airflow and cooling wasn't an issue.

If you can't find a case you like, there's always an option like that.

It's a been a LONG time since I was current with Intel hardware. This isn't going to be an AMD vs Intel discussion either. Either is fine. Appearance, noise, size are more important that detailed specs.

She has a KICKASS laptop (Lenovo Yoga 910) but unfortunately it lacks Thunderbolt3 or else the easy answer would be external video card)

And at what resolution? you only said screen size which really doesnt give an indication of what the load will actually be.

1080p is a lot easier to drive than 4K....

Aesthetics vs noise is going to be your biggest challenge here.

Id suggest you get on youtube and look at the current tech influencer reviews. id suggest gamers nexus in this instance. Hardware unboxed is another one to consider.

Coming at it the other way (from the DIY thread), if you really wanted the stereo component look, you could build your own case. Might even be able to mill it, if only you had access to a CNC router... 😀
