The time in ms (1000ms=1s) for the data to make a round trip to the server. If you are gaming, that's ~ delay that you get from when you press a button to when the action happens. Humans can react in about 100ms (depending on a lot of factors, so it's a huge range really, but - in gaming terms, that's a good ballpark.)  So, if your ping is over 100, your opponent get your ping - their ping extra time to react. Depending on the game, that's either irrelevant or the difference between winning and loosing...  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Vocus group(Orcon) has a very good pipe to the US. Pings are 140-180ms depending on the server locations.

I play on Aussie servers with 30-35 ping.

If you are with them, could you ping wotna3.login.wargaming.net for me and tell me your latency? Oh, and if you don't mind, which part of NZ is it from?

Stuff Internet is fine. They use Devoli who have a very good network.

I'm going to give 2° a shot for a year, unless a good reason not to comes up.

(My MR billing cycle starts tomorrow - so trying to sort it today, so I only have to pay one 30 day charge to be set free...)

Pinging a gaming server is not going to give you a true reflection of the latency as icmp packets don't get priority

2degrees is your best choice

It's been pretty accurate with WG's servers. Although, the biggest problem is MR dropping packets in the evenings. It's been getting worse and worse tbh.

Your latency with 2degrees will probably be worse, given I'm in Wellington and it's the same as your current latency and you're down south

However, I doubt you'll suffer packet loss on 2degrees vs MR

If the jitter is good, and they are not dropping packets, I'm willing to give them a try. Having said that, I've been on hold to their call centre for almost half hour; they are going to loose a customer if they don't pick up before I have to go pickup the kid. :-b

Please don't tell me you are calling to talk about latency to gaming servers!

Yep - they picked up 5 minutes before I had to jump in the car - all sorted there, guess I will call MR and give them the good news... If it doesn't work out, I guess, I will be posting a new thread in 12 months. Thanks for all your help, one and all, much appreciated.

PS. Once I'm up and running w/ 2° I'll add a post with results.

Just sign up via their website - avoids the call centre that way.

Lunchtime, on a weekend is almost the worst time to attempt to phone anywhere.

Edit: Don't tell MyRepublic. Let 2degrees handle it and phone MyRepublic to ensure your billing relationship is finished after you've transferred.

I did - I just needed to confirm the switchover details so I don't end up with a gap etc... There is no option to include extra info in their web forms and the confirmation email is pretty sparse on details.
