For me the decision was easy as I look at game playing as an added bonus, PS3 = HDMI in EVERY console, hi-def bluray drive, VERY easy to put in a large hard drive, built in wireless networking, great for storing all types of media etc.

For me it was the PS3 primarily I wanted a games/bluray player. I have my dedicated pc and mac workstations for my work which I play the odd game & movie on. It was an easy choice.

Oh, just bear in mind, with the Xbox360, every game you want to play that's from the original Xbox requires a download :S from the XBox Live marketplace or update, i can't remember which, since I just sold mine.

Not too bad though, usually only like a 15mb download and your game will run :)

Also don't believe the Blu-ray coming to Xbox rumours, they are out every 3 months or so :S

Project Natal and the PS3 lollipop will spice things up quite a bit and could persuade a lot of Wii owners to pickup a second or third console too

Net browsing: PS3 has it, 360 doesnt out the box. But to be honest past an initial look, i havent ever browsed the net on my ps3. Thats what my pc/laptops are for. Meh. The control pad seems much to awkward for this for me.

Just an added note, if you do want to browse on the PS3 you can plug in a mouse and keyboard, any standard usb or bluetooth will work. You can get specialised ones too like the Logitech PS3 Mediaboard which is actually kinda cool (integrated touchpad on the keyboard - works over bluetooth). Keyboard will work anywhere that uses the standard PS3 text input, so it's quite handy to even plug one in temporarily when you first set up your PSN account.

In addition any bluetooth headset will work on the PS3, and many usb ones too. You can use the same headset you use for your phone :)

ah ok thanks Guys im going with the ps3 im going to look for a 60gb model on trademe then just replace the harddrive :)

Oh, and by the way if you instal another hdd that does not void the warranty :) As long as you dont damage anything in the process, that is.

Also, there is a site to check compatability of PS2 games. Don't know how reliable it is, ut it is an official one. So you can check your favourite games:

I don't have either, but if I had to pick one, I'd probably pick the PS3. A lot of games these days come out on both as well as PC. Then each console usually has their exclusive titles. The ones that are on the Xbox often come out on PC later, being a MS console, they port to PC quite easily.
The PS3 exclusive games don't come out on PC. Things like Gran Turismo (well, eventually) and Metal Gear Solid 4, whereas games like Halo and Gears of War are on PC. Although I'm still awaiting GoW2 and Halo 3.... *grumble*....

*bloody hell, typed a good length reply to this topic then the forum decided to fail over... grrrr*

Anyway, was saying, we just got our PS3 Slim about 1.5 months ago and it's been great. Bought a lot of PSN games and they're very very enjoyable. Great for BluRay movies and we're renting BluRay titles from Fatso, and bought first BluRay movie (Star Trek 2009). IT's great for media streaming from Windows 7 natively, but if you're on XP/Vista, worth looking using PS3 Media Server for DLNA - which works with PS3 and XBox360.

I did thought about getting a second PS3 250GB for our bedroom; EB Games and The Warehouse are having good deal at the moment with some games included. They're around $680-$699 I think.

Having said that, I will get Xbox360 250GB if it comes with better game bundle, and there's a lot of other XBLA games that I wanna play too, and looking forward to Movies services on XBLA as well as Facebook/Twitter/Last.fm integration in upcoming XBox360 firmware.

Internet is my backyard...

I bought a PS3 slim 120GB a couple of months ago and we are really pleased about it. We'd finally upgraded to an HD TV and our Xbox running XBMC wasn't cutting it. Really pleased with it as a media player although the interface is rubbish compared to XBMC IMO. It's a comprimise and the upgrade to Blu-Ray has more than made up for the lack of eye candy in the interface. For $550 it's great value.

If you are buying it as a media player it's definitely worth buying the blu ray remote. It's probably the nicest remote to use I've ever - blue tooth should be standard in all remotes, so much more reliable than infra red!

As far as gaming goes I'm not a big console gamer but games like Little Big Planet and Uncharted 1 & 2 are awesome.

Hi games that i have checked on the link you gave me were

FF VII Dirge Of Cerberus
Star ocean series
Ratchet and clank series

ps1
FF IX
FF VII
FF VIII

all these games either have no problems or their problems were resolved in a firmware update

Good to hear. Personally, the R+C's have been fine on my PS3 but I haven't tried the others. Good luck with the hunt!
