In the local rag HN had originally dicsounted to $1,293 from $1,600 - apparently (it's in the Big Sale flyer at that price). That was until they noticed the $999 price point for the same model at NL, and so promptly "re-adjusted".
Curiously, the RRP sticker said $1,999.
Was really tempted, but, common sense held out in the end. I'd already purchased a 55" EX500 Sony in last year's Boxing day madeness, albeit nowhere near the discount the 60" 60A6500 was going for (dang it).

Edit: Forgot to mention the NL $999 price was only revealed/published in the Dom Post this morning - cunning red team

Actually, the price was on Noel's website as of Monday evening.
It's a little funny that the stores leave such a long lead time prior to Christmas... it's just giving the opposition a few days to re-formulate their pricing.

Took a bit of convincing but finally got the Mrs to upgrade her old SonyEricsson C901. Picked up an HTC desire X for $199, I'm really impressed with ICS + sense UI4, especially the data migration wizard to get the data from the old phone. I couldn't deal with the crowds in Albany so anything else will have to wait for another day.

The $998 price at HN Tory St is gone. It's back up to $1,293.

Talked to the HN sales guy and he said they were only doing it to compete with a local chain, who apparently sold out of stock within 1 hour, which really annoyed them - as people were coming in to the store looking for a similar deal because said reseller had sold out.
Consequently, today they put the price back up.

I think the moral of this one, is that the best deals (in general) can be had on Boxing day itself. Stock actually exists, and the consumer has haggling leverage to play with. Downside is you have to deal with the Boxing day chaos.

Handle9: JB Hifi have their page up now. Interestingly they are advertising a 4GB Xbox Kinect Bundle for $249 but when you click it it is a 320GB bundle. Thinking it?s a typo but hoping it's not!

So it looks like this was a mistake but they are honouring it. Xbox with Kinect, 320gb had and 5 games for $249. You have to say you saw it on the website cause they aren't on display

Thanks for that - bought one this morning :)  The salesperson's exact quote was "if I can see it on the website, I have to offer it to you at that price"

They actually had an equivalent bundle advertised in store for $349, so it's a pretty decent discount.

You're welcome :) I was eying that bundle up per Christmas and my internal price point was $350, which I would have been happy to pay to be honest. The only downside is that it's a white console and Kinect which I'm not hat keen on - black would have matched better but at that price khe serah!

went to jb hifi in botany downs at around 8:30 am yesterday (was dropping friend off to work there). store was pretty much empty but open (rest of botany opened at 9am).

picked up two of the sony 7.1 receviers for $298.

didnt have a special on jensen in wall speakers, but i had printed off the price history of them from pricespy and bought 11 speakers all up for the prices they were on sale at previously (building a house and putting in wall surround sound in lounge + master bedroom).

some good deals on tvs, but nothing to amazing IMO.

got a side by side fridge freezer for $1275 delivered from good guys (usually on special theyre around $1400/1500 + delivery).

noticed that before boxing day jb had a lot of blurays for sale for $14.95 but after boxing day they put those prices up to around $18 since all blurays were 20% off.

bought a bed from farmers before xmas during a half off sale that ended the 24th of dec, but now theres another sale on and beds are half off again :)

personally i think there are some real bargins for a few things (xbox 360s etc) but most things are about normal sale prices

What competition?  Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery, Noel Leeming and Bond+Bond are all the same - literally.  Harvey Norman barely counts at all (they maybe have one or two really good prices but mostly just 10% type stuff which is naff).  Dick Smith is the same as Harvey Norman.  And no one can compare to JB Hifi's sale-fu anyway.
