Previously I've been using a windows server to bridge my switches, however, this bridging method has become unstable over time and introduced issues of its own. So I believe I can get greater stability by using TMG as a route (not NAT) between the switches (coming up a level in the OSI model). I've defined a route network rule between the two adapters and created Access Rules for all Protocols between the two networks.

There is one machine (W2K3) on the switch that I'm using for testing and I can see DHCP requests on the TMG log but they are denied, logged with destination being localhost.

Am I in the right direction here? Is there a bridge mode in TMG that I should be using.

Note: Ideally I would like to have bridged this all at the virtual networking layer, but Hyper-V supports a maximum of one adapter per virtual switch.

I could not get this work so I've NATted it for now. Cannot get the Hyper-V manager to work from behind NAT so may end up going back to bridging at the data link layer.

I'm now operational with a data link layer bridge, i.e. performed by the operating system. Discovered that Hyper-V External switches, i.e. bound to a NIC, place the NIC in promiscuous mode (which makes sense when considered they are operating as a bridge). This may explain why RTL-8169 based NIC don't work in Hyper-V, i.e. they may not support promiscuous mode?

Anyhow, short answer, I could not get TMG to bridge at the network layer.
