My TP-Link 1043ND has decided it likes to continually drop connections, even after reboots and a firmware upgrade. So now I am looking for a new one.

Requirements are at least - Gigabit Ethernet, 300Mbps Wireless N, USB Port and detachable antennas.

Edit, you say the TPLink drops connections, is this wireless or WAN routes.

Have you tried 3rd party open source firmware eg: DD-WRT of Gargoyle Router (OpenWRT)?

When I got the same router I changed the firmware after a week & never looked back. Im running WW DRT & am happy with it.

My TP-Link TD-W8960N is also constanting dropping the aDSL side. This is third router and I'm nearing the conclusion there sumply isn't a good one. Tried 3 com ($250), Netgear ($300) and not TP-Link ($100) and nothing. The first two could not consistently bridge WiFi and Ethernet connections (i.e. frequently dropping UDP) but they could keep an aDSL connection. The TP-Link bridges perfectly, byut can't hold/re-establish an aDSL connection.

Hi, have just been put off the TP-Link W8960N and am wanting some advice on a modem router that would be a "step up" form the TP-Link.

Features i would like: Wireless N, cost ~$150, USB, Dual band, stable connection, doesn't run too hot (to the touch), easy(-ish) to configure and you can switch it off and not have to reconfigure it (like my dead Linksys!). So i'm not really wanting to do anything too techie, but i do have an inner geek that likes to fiddle (with electronics that is!)

About 18 months. I've gone backwards and forwards with DD-WRT and stock firmware but the last couple of months we've been watching lots of Netflix (new baby so my wife watches alot more TV now while feeding).

I'm very happy with the solution, especially as it's a single router solution.

Edit: I'm referring to TL-WR1043ND, sorry if there's any confusion.

Sounds like a faulty unit, if the 3Com and Netgear don't drop regularly neither should the TP Link. I would try the TP Link at another place to double check it's stability. Could be power related issue, you have a lot of devices, did you have it plugged into a UPS?

I guess you will be trying a Draytek Vigor 120 or Netcomm next?

It may not be able to handle all the inbound connections.power is clean, running on UPS from a dedicated 30 amp circuit

and it's crapped out again, current record uptime, 4 days. What else to buy?!? I'll replace it, then exchange it (I can't be offline for days organising an exchange).
