I am using a Rogers AT&T connection with a Sony Ericsson T616 and Ipaq h1940. I have been trying so many areas to help me connect to the internet but in vain.

My Ipaq connects to the ipaq and I get the icon on the phone. But when I open Internet Explorer it displays a message " Cannot Find Page". I try opening messenger it says " not compatible"

I have a weather update which connects and downloads information.

I use Pocket PC 2003.

Please Help

Norman

You have to check if you're using the correct APN. Some allow only access to a WAP gateway, while others give access to the internet. Check the *99# used to dial, if it matches your phone configuration, and if needed you might have to enter a +CGDCONT=1,,"APN", where 1 is the CID and APN will be the APN name your operator has defined.

You'll get this information from AT&T.

I have the same problem. I have Cingular, a T616 and a 1940 .. I can transfer files and phone numbers but trying to connect seems impossible.

Cingular CS have no idea what the connecting string should be. I have tried **99***1+number# and numbers directly ...

I read the previous posint but don't understand APN and CID what are those?
I do hae an ISP (Earhlink) can I call directly to EL to connect ... I keep getting a message
"there is no modem at that number" on my Ipaq ?????

The Ipaq does connect to 616 and the 616 seems to try to dial.

What am I missing ... any help would appreciated as Sonny Ericsson says call Cingular, Cingular says call Ipaq.

Thanks

The companies should provide you with APN information. If this is not available because of lack of knowledgeable support in the call centres, you can try connect2internet on your Pocket PC for automatic configuration. The software should have the settings for Cingular.

Norman, gss7881,

In your phone, go into the menu -> Connectivity -> Data Comm -> Data Accounts -> New Account (make it a GPRS account, call it something meaningful)

You need the following settings

FOR CINGULAR

APN: ISP.CINGULAR
Username: WIXDC001@W5.MYCINGULAR.COM
Password: ZXY203DC9K0402

FOR AT&T

APN: proxy

As far as I am aware these are correct, but you must have this activated on your mobile account.

After you create the account, select it again, and take note of the account's CID #.

Then all you need to do is make the iPAQ dial *99***CID# where CID is the data account's CID number.

This process is the same for all SonyEricsson GPRS phones.

Well thanks for your instructions .... and I do feel so stupid for a computer consultant... but it did not work... here are some additional questions.
1. are the upper-case letters siginificant? (I changed them any way)
2. on T616 side I created the account per your instructions... but then when I start the dial-up from the IPAQ it asks me for user name passwd again .... do I leave it blank? I tried to put what you had on the T616 side, also my username pwd (from my cingular) and tried blank and nothing worked?

I will FIGURED IT out somehow

Oops, sorry, bit of a mistake...

for cingular, put the username and password into the ipaq and not the phone

*sorry*

If that still does not work, then delete the pairing on both the iPaq and the phone, repaid and set up the connection again.
