SmallNetBuilder has always been a good site for network product reviews and information.

One of the few sites that's really dedicated to 'testing' the latest routers and NAS.

One consideration and I'm not sure if it's included in the buyers guide above, is support for alternative firmware.

I have Tomato firmware on my Linksys E4200v1 which extends the services to PPTP, OpenVPN and local DNS server. In a small home environment this reduces the requirement for additional hardware down to one device.
Without Tomato firmware on my Linksys E4200v1 it'd be just another lacklustre router.

With iPhones, Android and Windows Phones having a VPN to your own home storage (NAS) is almost a must.(In my world anyway)
